World?
23
Lets Begin
  • Ready, Set, TREK!

24
Location Everything on Earth has its own
location, or where it can be found.
  • Relative Location Where a place is in relation
    to other places.
  • Absolute Location Exact location on Earth

25
Location
  • Why is it important to distinguish between an
    absolute (specific) or relative (general)
    location?

26
Place Every location on Earth has a place
identity made up of unique features.
  • Physical features Are landforms, bodies of
water, climate, and plant and animal life.
  • Human features Buildings, roads, and people are
some of a places human features.

27
Place
  • If you had to describe a place to a friend, would
you begin with the characteristics of its human
differences or characteristics of its physical
    differences?

28
Human-Environment Interactions Humans and their
surroundings affect each other.
  • Modify People modify or change their
    surroundings by building cities.
  • Adapt Surroundings can affect people, causing
them to adapt, or change to fit, the way they
act, such as wearing warm clothing in cold places.

29
Human/Environment Interaction
  • Why do people change or modify their environment?

30
Movement People, products, and ideas move from
place to place by transportation and
communication.
  • Geography helps you understand how people came
to live where they do. It also helps you
understand the causes and effects of movement.
  • A cause is an action that makes something else
happen. An effect is what happens as a result of
    an action.

31
Movement
  • Besides basic transportation (e.g., car, truck,
plane, boat) to export and import goods, what
    other examples best describes movement?

32
Regions Areas on Earth that differ from each
other because of their features.
  • The type of features in a region may range from
physical, human, economic, cultural, or political.

33
Regions
  • What distinguishes certain groups of people in a
specific region from people in other places?

34
Why Geography Matters
  • Your personal geographic journey should remain
positive, safe, and a bright future.
  • You are part of the future generation who shall
help lead this country as we move further into
    the 21st century.
  • There are challenges facing America such as
climate change, the Rise of Nations in Power,
    and Global Terrorism.

35
Reflection
  • Is today, a turning point in the way I view my
    geography education?
  • Where will my personal geographic journey or path
    lead me in the future?
  • How and where will future generations live and
    work in their geographic world?
