3.What is Digital Camera?
  • Digital Camera(DC) is a new type of camera which
use CCD or CMOS to capture images and change it
to digital format. The image is stored into the
memory instead of the film which is used in
    traditional camera.

7
4.The advantages of using Digital Camera over
Traditional camera
  • We can send the digital image to computer
    directly.
  • Easy to edit the photo through software.
  • Share the photo through internet easily.
  • No need to buy films.
  • The quality of the photo can be better.
  • After a long time, the photo still in good
    condition.

8
5.What is CCD and CMOS?
  • Charged Couple Device (CCD ), and Complementary
Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) are the sensor
    inside the DC .
  • CCD or CMOS collect photons from the object . The
number of photons collected in each pixel is
    converted into an electrical signal.
  • Then, these signals are converted to a digital
value using the analog to digital converter (D/A
Converter), so it changes to digital image.
  • Finally, the image save into the RAM.

9
6.CCD compare to CMOS
  • CMOS have lower amount of power consumption.
  • The cost of CMOS is lower.
  • CMOS sensors are faster and smaller.
  • CCD gives higher image quality.

10
7.Pixel
  • Pixel - The individual imaging element of a CCD
or the individual output point of a display
    device.
  • It is the smallest component of the image.
  • If horizontal resolution800800pixels
    horizontally
  • If vertical resolution600600pixels vertically

    resolution of the image.

    pixels2560 x 1920 pixels 5 Mega pixels ... and
    so on
  • Higher numbers are always better!!

12
8.Optical zoom
  • Means that the camera has a real multi-focal
    length lens.
  • Zoom in the far away object.
  • 2X and 3X is common

13
9.Digital zoom
  • enlarge the center portion of the picture.
  • It will not make the object more clear

Example of digital zoom
14
10.Memory
  • The most popular types of flash memory cards for
    use in digital cameras are
  • Compact Flash (CF)
  • Smart Media (SM)
  • Memory Stick (MS)
  • Multimedia Card (MMC)

15
  • Secure Digital (SD)
  • xD-Picture Card (xD)
  • Micro drive
  • The type of memory card you use is dictated
by which digital camera you buy. These physically
    different cards are -not- interchangeable.

16
11.Compact flash
  • Most common memory card including
    Kodak,HP,Nikon,Canon,Epson,Casio etc using.
  • Larger memory value.
  • Faster read-write speed.
  • Thicker than smart media.
  • Higher in price.

17
12.Smart media
  • Card size is thinner and lighter.
  • Memory size is small, up to 128MB
  • Cheaper than compact flash.

18
13.Sony memory stick
  • Only support Sonys devices.
  • Memory size 4MB up to 128MB
  • Small size

19
14.Card readers
  • A device that you insert flash memory cards into
to transfer the data to the computer.
  • Much faster than the serial port!
  • No need connect DC into computer
  • Can read many types of memory cards, eg compact
    flash, smart media etc.

20
15. Other functions
  • MP3 player
  • Recorder
  • Video
  • Web Cam
  • Many mobile phones have the DC function

21
16.Transfer images to computer
  • IEEE-1394 - it's a high-speed input/output bus
    used by digital video devices.
  • USB
  • CARD READER
