About myself

• previous experience NGO public administration
• currently senior programme officer (FNP)
• tasks to co-ordinate my own programmes (e.g.
  academic grants, Copernicus Award, Honorary
  Humboldt Fellowships) and stay in touch with the
  scientific community
• challenge to keep pace with the changes both
  inside and outside the FNP
• (by learning from the best)

About the FNP

• UNIQUE the biggest non-governmental organisation
  supporting science in Poland since 1991
• INDEPENDENT
• self financing and not - for profit
• initial endowment (90 m ) - current assets (120
  m )
• annual budget (ca 7 m )
• SCIENCE ORIENTED 20 programmes - scholarships,
  subsidies, prizes and grants for individual
  scientists or research teams
• Supporting only the best, so they can become even
  better!

Plans for the fellowship

• Following the best examples
• best practices in science management (e.g. peer
  review system assessment instruments)
• comparison of funding portfolios/strategies
  (adoption of useful and already proved solutions,
  schemes)
• Establishing co-operation
• focus on the humanities
• emphasis on multilateral cross-border initiatives

How can I and my institution benefit from the
fellowship?

• for me it is a chance to develop professional
  skills relevant for my scope of responsibility
  (science management)
• for the FNP it is the best way to join the
  network of European foundations supporting
  science
• for the VW Foundation (and partners from other
  countries) it might be a chance to broaden
  already existing network and strengthen its
  central east European dimension
