Fuel
  • Industry consumes 18B gallons of fuel annually
  • 17.2B spent on fuel in 2004, up 5B from 2003
  • The average 2 hour MD80 flight consumes more than
    2,100 gallons of fuel. A 5 hour 767 flight burns
    7,500 gallons.
  • A 1 cent increase in the price of a gallon of jet
    fuel equals an additional 29M in annual cost to
    AA
  • AA has spent 1B more on fuel in 2004 than in
    2003
  • AA would have earned 100M in 1Q05 at fuel cost
    of one year ago instead of 162M loss

    introduces fuel initiative to save 100M/year
  • Southwest breaks tradition and code-shares with
    ATA
  • Japan and France jointly developing aircraft to
    succeed the Concorde over next 3 years
