OVERVIEW
  • The Career Pathways Program will help
    TANF-eligible adults earn marketable educational
credentials for immediate entry in high demand
    occupations and/or further advanced education.
  • Emphasis will be on job readiness education,
basic skills, remediation, advanced training in
high wage, high demand occupations and strong
connections among two-year colleges, students and
    employers.

What are Career Pathways?
  • A career pathway is a series of connected or
sequential education courses with an internship
or on-the-job work experience as well as enhanced
    student and academic support services.
  • A pathway starts with employability skills and
adult education, then progresses from there to a
certificate of proficiency, to a technical
certificate, to an associate degree, and finally
    to a baccalaureate degree.

5
Features of a Career Pathway
  • Bridge programs that prepare educationally
    disadvantaged students to enter credit-based
    academic courses.
  • Sequential curriculum where certificate and
degree coursework is grouped into smaller sets of
courses that can be taken in one to two
    semesters.
  • Roadmaps that graphically outline the ladder
for an occupation or career and identify the
courses and curriculum sequence needed for
    career advancement

6
Features Continued
  • Enhanced wrap-around student services that
include career assessment, advising, and tutoring
to enhance student success as well as job search
skills, training and job placement assistance.
  • Credentials for specific occupations that inform
employers of a students skills and provide for
easy articulation of credits across programs and
    educational institutions.
  • Conveniently scheduled and sequenced classes to
meet the needs of working adults.

7
Additional Features
  • Outreach via community-based organizations and
other groups to recruit and serve students
