Scholarships (Section 2.4)

Scholarship Process
  • Program director/coordinator submits LIA
    Scholarship Application form to CDE
  • Applicant chooses a college offering the EDU
    course and registers as a new student
  • Scholarship approved and college notified
  • Applicant can now register for the EDU Course and
    pays 50 of the tuition and fees

Reimbursement for Tuition/Fees
  • Applicant is required to pay 50 of their
    tuition/fees
  • CDE pays remaining 50 through 3rd party billing
  • Applicant can pay 100 of their tuition/fees
    upfront

What is an LIA Portfolio? (Section 3.1)
  • A LIA Portfolio documents knowledge in the field
    of adult basic education and family literacy.
  • The documentation is shown by the completion of
    required forms that were established by the LIA
    Portfolio committee
  • The LIA Portfolio is NOT a collection of lesson
    plans or work samples

Why Complete a Portfolio? (Section 3.1)
  • You have a minimum of an Associate Degree PLUS
  • Evaluation of experience in the field of adult
    education and/or family literacy
  • OR
  • Documentation of previous coursework as
    equivalent to the objectives of the required EDU
    courses.

LIA Portfolio Resubmission Policy (Section 3.13)
  • Portfolios may be resubmitted under either of
    these conditions
  • Applicant is seeking approval of an additional
    EDU course when one or more, but not all, courses
    were reviewed and approved through the portfolio
    process
  • Applicant is seeking approval of an updated or
    revised portfolio that was returned due to
    missing and/or inadequately addressed requirements

Receive Certificate of Equivalency from Colorado
Community College System

Certificate of Equivalency
  • When the LIA Portfolio is accepted, the applicant
    will receive a Certificate of Equivalency in the
    mail from CDE.
  • The Certificate of Equivalency will serve as a
    transcript when applying to Colorado Educator
    Licensing for the LIA.
  • The Certificate of Equivalency is issued through
    the Colorado Community College System proving
    equivalency to taking the required EDU courses

Renewal (Section 8)
  • The LIA is valid for five years from the date of
    issue. It is renewable with six semester hours of
    university credit or 90 professional development
    hours completed during the five years from the
    date of issue.
