What is the PSR Project?
  • Project to develop a new pension and health
    technology system (to be rolled out in late 2009)
  • Improves Employers and Members ability to
    interact with CalPERS over the Internet
  • Provides faster more reliable cost effective
    service
  • Employer business process changes will be
    required

    Employers and Members
  • Build awareness of the PSR Project within the
    Employer community

Success Factors from Previous Implementations
  • Set expectations appropriately regarding design
    features that Employers can influence
  • Employer leadership needs to sponsor the change
  • Get the payroll providers involved as soon as
    reporting changes are known
  • Identify data that is difficult for Employers to
    obtain as soon as possible
  • Involve Employers in system test
  • Involve Employers in reviewing training materials

Why are we Making the Change?
  • Contribution reporting system is old and
    difficult to use
  • Retirement benefits often require adjustments
  • Time delay between when an Employer submits their
    payroll information from when it is actually
    updated and viewable/usable
  • Limited ability for Employers to make adjustments
    to past payroll submissions
  • Special compensation is difficult to report
    and/or adjust
  • Current system isnt flexible

    Advisory Group review. Draft reporting formats,
    system page walkthrough. Feedback on CalPERS
    Educational Forum workshop materials
  • October 2007 CalPERS Educational Forum. The
    PSR Project will host a booth and workshop
  • May 2008 We will communicate changes that will
    be necessary to interact with CalPERS through the
    new system (e.g. file formats)
  • October 2008 At the CalPERS Educational Forum
    we will conduct system demonstrations and present
    an implementation plan
  • Summer 2009 We will begin Employer Training
  • Fall 2009 Employers and Members will start to
    interact with the new system by submitting
    information such as enrollment and payroll files
    through the new system
