Antiretroviral Effects on Lipids
  • Protease inhibitors, Non-Nucleoside RT Inhibitors
    and Nucleoside/Nucleotide RT Inhibitors all have
    effects on lipids.
  • No clear changes with entry inhibitors or
    integrase inhibitors to date.
  • Most effects are drug specific, not class
    specific.
  • Choice of initial therapy is influenced by the
    desire to minimize the risk of atherogenic
    dyslipidemia.

Why are the lipids worse?
  • Patient not really fasting.
  • Non-compliant with diet.
  • Patient went out and had beer night before.
