- Duke Student Government (DSG) and the
- Duke University Student Dining Advisory
- Committee (DUSDAC).
- Our success and the future of dining at
- Duke University rest with a student body vested
- in the integral part dining plays within our
- community.
- All of us at Compass look forward to building
- a partnership with the student leadership and
- our student guests to create a dining experience
- reflective of the needs of the community and the
- mission of the university.

- When we requested the opportunity to meet
- with the general body of the DSG, it was our
- hope to introduce ourselves, learn about your
- organization and to share with you our
- commitment to the university and Dukes
- student body.
- Today we have been asked to discuss notes from
- the Duke University Student Dining Advisory
- Committee (DUSDAC). In the future we look
- forward to being invited back to learn the ins
- and outs of Duke from the entire student
- leadership.

- Student Dining Advisory Committee.
- The Great Hall
- Customer service generally lacking.
- Customer service training is a priority and a
continuous process for our team. - Katheldra Pinder, our director of trainer is
conducting classes, role-playing and - other exercises with the employees to begin the
process of changing the current - culture.
- Lines are often disorganized.
- We are currently working on the q-ing for each
concept. We have identified the - best flow and will be posting signs to help
direct and explain how the concept - Works. i.e. Trattoria
- Serving format at Jow Jing! i.e. cup system

- Ensure cashier screen is facing customer.
- This has been corrected and will be monitored on
a regular basis. - Frequent complaints about small portions.
- A review of portions is in process specific
feedback is requested, which stations - present the greatest concern.

- Length of lines in the serving area.
- The number of students in the serving line will
be monitored more closely to - create a better flow. Our goal is to keep the
congestion off of the serving - line, using the checker station with appropriate
signage as the control - point at dinner.
- Significant back up at Ice Cream station.
- The physical layout of the station is not
conducive to the amount of - numbers it does it does not allow for more the
one to two people to - scoop ice cream at a time. Additional ice cream
scoops are on order. - The soft serve yogurt machine will take some
pressure of the dipped ice - cream once the parts on order have arrived.

- Shortage of silverware and china.
- Relocation of the silverware to the two register
areas versus the original - Five locations will assist with this challenge.
Employees are being - coached on the frequency of china stocking during
meal periods. - Paul and his team are developing an inventory
level to keep amounts at - Appropriate levels.

- Music Selection
- DUSDAC to participate in music selections.
- All food items are labeled
- Dressings and specialty selections are
identified, the team is looking at clings and - 8.5x11 vs. the individual identifiers for
signage.
