2Main recommendations from the Review
- Larger household panel study (task force to
design) - Birth cohorts (maintain, extend, combine, new
design options) - Fill gap with ALSPAC, LSYPE, Scottish School
leavers? - Start new birth cohort around 2012
- Strategic planning (links to admin data,
health, environment) - Governance, capacity-building, collaboration
3What is currently being taken forward?
- ESRC Research Resources Board has established a
small task force to consider how these
recommendations may be taken forward. - Task Force has initiated design work for the
new longitudinal study - ALSPAC data to be made available for social
scientific research - Proposals to be developed for new facility for
data linking
4What has the Task Force done so far?
- Four related studies have been commissioned
- Continuity with the BHPS
- Ethnic minorities
- Biomarkers
- Design, data collection, sampling
5What remains to be done (short term)?
- The Task Force must review the advice and
recommendations coming from the commissioned
studies and produce a Business Plan first
draft to be submitted to the RRB in late October. - Issues that must also be considered are
- Governance arrangements for the new study
- Co-funding arrangements
6What remains to be done (longer term)?
The Task Force must decide how to take forward
the recommendations relating to the integration
of existing birth cohorts and the recommendation
to commence a new birth cohort in or around 2012.
