Financial Aid
  • A stipend of not more then 5,000 is authorized
    to assist in attaining teacher certification
  • In addition to VA, relocation, educational
    benefits, and other entitlements
  • A 10,000 Bonus is authorized for participants
    who teach in a high needs school
  • Maximum amount an individual receives cannot
    exceed 10,000

Education Requirements
  • Classroom Teacher
  • Legislation stipulates applicants for subject
    areas must hold minimum of a baccalaureate degree
    from an accredited institution
  • Vocational/Technical Teacher
  • Applicants must have the equivalent of one year
    of college with six years of experience to
    qualify to apply for entry to Troops to Teachers
  • Applies to positions requiring PSC permits to
    teach (Georgia).

  • Time in Service
    Eligible Categories
  • Retired from active duty or as drilling
    reservist with 20 or more years of service.
  • Active duty member with approved date of
    retirement with one year or less remaining before
    retirement.
  • Retired or separated (AC / RC) on or after
    January 8, 2002 for physical disability. Must
    apply within four years after separation.
  • Currently serving RC in the drilling reserves
    with 10 or more years of creditable service
    towards retirement and commit to serving an
    additional three years, or until eligible for
    retirement.
  • Individuals transitioning from active duty on
    or after January 8, 2002, and have served six
    years on active duty immediately before
    separation, and commit to three years with a
    drilling reserve unit. Must apply within four
    years after separation.

Obligations Incurred
  • Those participants that accept financial aid
    have committed themselves to teach at least three
    years.
  • If they accept the bonus of 10,000 they must
    teach in a high needs school for three years.
  • Certain drilling reservist categories require a
    3 year enlistment or extension.
