School Procedures and Policies
  • School Arrival Time between 755 and 805
  • Lunch Money collected on Mondays by teachers,
    all other days in office
  • Please mark how many tickets you are purchasing
  • Dress Code
  • Jackets, boots, snow pants, etc. should be
    labeled

  • Absent Students report to office with note from
    parents upon returning for an admit slip
  • Notes please turn in to office upon arrival
  • Phone calls please call as early as possible
    for changes in childs day
  • In case of student absence please let me know if
    you will be picking up homework or if you would
    like it sent home with another child.

Expectations
  • Students are expected to show respect at all
    times
  • Students are expected to do their very best
  • Students are expected to complete work on time
    and ask for help when needed

Homework
  • Approximately 45 minutes per night
  • All work is due the next day unless otherwise
    noted
  • Should be handed in upon arrival
  • All assignments will be listed in the students
    assignment notebook
  • All homework should come home in the black take
    home folder
  • Work is sent home even if complete so parents can
    review it with their child and sign assignment
    notebook.
  • Students will often get a Weekend Reading
    Assignment which is a chance for an adult to
    listen to their child read a story aloud. A note
    will come home explaining the assignment.
  • Students will get ½ off of words that are
    misspelled on vocabulary or other spelling
    assignments.

Assignment Notebook
  • Assignment Notebooks are filled out together
    every night
  • Parent/Guardian Please review and check that
    all work is completed before signing each night
  • Check for notes and changes in schedule
  • Math facts initial each night your child
    practices

Late Homework
  • If an assignment is one day late, the maximum
    grade received is 80
  • Each day thereafter will result in a 10 drop in
    the students grade
  • If parents or students dont understand the
    assignment, please write a note explaining and I
    will be more than happy to help the next day.

Corrections
  • Corrections must be made on assignments receiving
    grades of 75 or below
  • The original grade will remain the same
  • Correcting ensures understanding
  • Not changing the grade ensures high quality work

Thursday Folders
  • Work from the week will come home for you to look
    at each week in a Thursday Folder
  • Please review the work with your child
  • Sign the slip and return folder with only the
    yellow slip inside

Academic Progress Reports/Powerschool
  • Powerschool is a new grading program that will be
    launching soon. It will give you the chance to
    check your childs progress via the Internet.
  • Grades will be updated every Monday
  • Hard copies of progress reports will be sent home
    at the end of the third and sixth week of each
    quarter.
  • Report cards will be sent home at the end of each
    quarter (Nine weeks)
  • Please review the report with your child, sign
    and return to school

Weekly Newsletter
  • Every Friday students will bring home a schedule
    of the next weeks events and upcoming tests
  • A spelling list will also be included
  • Please keep this in a safe place so you and your
    child can refer to it throughout the week

Reading Calendars
  • Each month students are given a Reading Calendar.
    We will be focusing on a different genre of
    literature every month. Please be sure your
    child reads at least one book of that particular
    genre. Examples of the different genres will be
    available in our classroom. At the end of each
    month a project will be due often this will be
    completed at school.
  • Students are to read for 15 minutes each night
    for at least 20 nights initial each night and
    record the number of minutes spent reading.
    Reading can be done aloud or to themselves
    silently.
  • At the end of the month parents should sign the
    calendar and return to school. Students will
    receive Broeske Bucks for every minute they
    spend reading at home.

Spelling
  • Pretests are given on Mondays
  • Sheets will be given throughout the week
  • Tests will be given on Fridays

Math Facts
  • It is crucial for students to know their basic
    math facts
  • Students should practice at least 4 times a week
    initial assignment notebook when your child has
    practiced for 10 minutes
  • Timed tests, Peer tutoring and short quizzes will
    be done at school

Classroom Discipline
  • If student behavior disrupts the learning of
    others or is disrespectful, they will receive a
    yellow card
  • Further disruptions will result in a red card and
    a note home. Students will spend the next 1000
    a.m. or 200 p.m.recess inside.
  • Positive behavior will be reinforced
