TDHS Talent Development High School
  • From the Climate Instruction Survey performed
    by TDHS John Hopkins University
  • The percentages of teachers and students that
    responded "fighting among students", "students
    talking back to or disrespecting teachers" and
    "students cutting class is a serious problem" at
    Ware County fell substantially from last year.
  • The percentages of students responding that they
    really like coming to math and English class
    every day or several days per week improved
    modestly from last year.
  • 60 of teachers at Ware County responded that
    this year's 9th grade students adjusted to high
    school "a little better or "much better than
    last year", a 40 percentage point increase from
    last year.
  • The rates of teachers at Ware County reporting
    that instruction to close students' basic skill
    gaps and instruction to challenge students'
    thinking and reasoning abilities was "better than
    last year" increased by 29 and 35 percentage
    points, respectively.
  • The percentage of students at Ware County who
    responded "teachers really listen to what I have
    to say" increased by 11 percentage points from
    last year.
  • Several measures of teacher morale at Ware
    County improved from last year. There was a 66
    percentage point increase in the rate of teachers
    responding that the "morale and positive spirit
    of the faculty" was "a little" or "much better
    than
  • last year".

Steps to Improvement
  • Developed preventive measures to improve student
    success on the GHSGT.
  • Identified students who were credit deficient
    during the 2007-2008 school year.
  • Students who failed the GHSGT on their first
    attempt (March 2008) were directed to remediation
    opportunities.
  • Parents were contacted and students were placed
    under contract. The graduation coach assembled
    a grad team on each student who met with the
    parent and student to devise a plan to achieve
    the goal of graduation.

2010 Graduation Rate
  • Continue preventive measures to improve student
    success on the GHSGT.
  • Identify students who are credit deficient and
    direct these students into credit recovery
    opportunities so they may be better prepared to
    take the GHSGT.
  • Identify students who are at-risk of failing the
    GHSGT based on their EOCT scores in related
    areas.
  • Students who failed the GHSGT on their first
    attempt March 2009- have been directed toward
    remediation opportunities.
  • Parents have been contacted and students have
    been placed under contract. The graduation
    coach assembled a grad team on each student who
    met with the parent and student to devise a plan
    to achieve the goal of graduation.
