    on Mare Island on the San Francisco Bay. Its
    about one hour by car and 40 minutes by ferry
    from San Francisco.

What makes Touro unique?
  • Touro is the only pharmacy school in the US that
    offers a 22 doctor of pharmacy program that
    consists of a two year in-class setting and two
    years of rotations.
  • The two years of clinical experience include
    thirteen six-week clerkships in different
    settings. Seven of the required clerkships
    include 2 rotations each in community pharmacy,
    internal medicine, and ambulatory care, and 1
    rotation in a hospital pharmacy. For the
    remaining 6 clerkships, you can choose from
    different settings, such as oncology, clinical,
    or retail.

Accreditation Status
  • The school offers a four-year Doctor of Pharmacy
    program that began in fall 2005. Since the school
    has been recently established, it has candidate
    accreditation status is still pending. Its full
    accreditation will not be considered until the
    first class graduates in 2009.

  • Touro University College of Pharmacy students
    recently won the 2008 California Pharmacists
    Association (CPhA) Quiz Bowl academic competition
    in Sacramento.
  • All California Pharmacy Schools participated.
  • Students, sitting in sections with their schools,
    each used a clicker to select one of four
    responses to a question projected on a screen.
    After each question was introduced, the students
    were given 10 seconds to confer.
  • Quiz Bowl questions can cover all aspects of
    medication use pharmacology, therapeutic
    alternatives, clinical issues such as
    contraindications and drug interactions,
    medication- intensive medical conditions like
    HIV, pharmacy law, health policy relating to
    medication use and Medicare Part D.
  • Grading was based on the percentage of students
    from each school who answered correctly.
  • Second place went to Western University of Health
    Sciences and third to University of the Pacific.
