Budgetball Game Concepts
  • Both debt and savings are important financial
    tools.
  • Debt should be used responsibly.
  • A decision to incur debt should take into
consideration both the costs and benefits that it
will generate in the short-term and the
    long-term.
  • Unpaid debt will cost more and more over time
    (compound interest).
  • There should be a realistic plan to pay back
    debt.
  • The level of debt incurred should be related to
    currently available resources and anticipated
    future resources.
  • Savings/surpluses preserve future choices.
  • Saving money may require sacrifices in the
    short-term.
  • Savings/surpluses can be used to meet future
needs, both planned and unplanned, and to pay off
    debts.
  • Budgetball uses these concepts as part of the
sport and creates a disposition to learn more

5
Budgetball Basics
  • A physical game for 2 teams of 610 players each.
  • An active game of quick passes, tough defense,
    and bold comebacks.
  • Played on any basketball court (or outdoors) on a
field of similar dimensions), and requiring only
a standard volleyball and a few other pieces of
    equipment.
  • The ball is moved around the court by being
passed from player to player, and players cannot
run with the ball once they possess it.
  • Players can only move within one half of the
    court according to their position.
  • Teams score by catching the ball in the end zone
  • Teams have to buy strategies during Budget
Sessions held throughout the game, which require
teams to manage debt and savings in order to win.
