What Is Advertising?
  • Advertising is a way to sell products. The
    advertisers will use a cool logo to catch your
    eye, or a slogan that will stay in your head.
  • These logos and slogans can be found everywhere,
    like in magazines, on TV and many more places.
    Keep your eyes open!

What is Advertising Propaganda?
  • Propaganda is what advertisers use to sell
    things. They resort to lying or making other
    companies look bad to make their product more
    appealing.

Advertising Targets
  • Advertisers will do anything to catch your
    attention. Such as putting everything from books
    to swimsuits anywhere, where you can see or find
    them. The targets age depends on the product
    the advertisers are selling. The most common
    targets are between the ages of 13 and 30.
  • They target these ages because they are the ones
    who would be most likely to be spending a lot of
    money on their product.

Length of Commercials
  • An average commercial is 30 seconds or less. 15
    second commercials are also common. The
    commercials are this long because thats the most
    time people will look at a commercial without
    losing interest.

Product Placement
  • Product placement is a way for advertisers to
    market their product by showing it in the media.
    They show the product in a well known tv show or
    music video, etc., but they do not mention that
    it is there, like a subliminal message. The
    people watching the show will most likely crave
    the product if this technique is used properly.

Ideal Kids
  • Ideal kids is a good way to sell products for
    kids. The kids will see that these kids on the
    commercials are having so much fun with this
    product, that they will want to be just like
    them.
  • Ex Smiley Fries You see the kids with the
    smiley fries and they look so happy.

Life-Like Settings
  • Life-like settings is a good way for advertisers
    to make their product look better than it really
    is. Ex Barbie Beach In the Barbie Beach
    commercial they show all the waves and sand, like
    a real beach, but the toy doesnt come with a
    beach.

Weasel Words
  • Weasel words is when advertisers use words like
    exciting and new and improved in their
    advertisement. The words arent always the truth.
  • ExKelloggs They use the weasel words - Part of
    a healthy breakfast.

Family Fun
  • Family fun will make the advertisers product
    look like it is fun for the whole family.
  • Ex LIFE! In the commercial the family is
    playing this game and they are having a lot of
    fun.

Excitement!
  • Excitement will make you think the product is
    awesome because of the excitement in the faces of
    the characters, or the people in the commercial.
  • Ex Rice Krispies In the commercial the kids are
    having so much fun listening to the Snap,
    Crackle, Pop!

Star Power
  • Star Power uses celebrities to make the
    advertisers product look like this star uses it,
    so you should too.
  • Ex Britney Spears and Pepsi When people see
    this star with Pepsi, that will make them want to
    be like her. They will want to drink Pepsi too.

  • Bandwagon will make it seem like everyone is
    doing what the product is promoting, so you
    should.
  • Ex Wireless Cell Phone. Are you In?
    Everyone has a cell phone in this commercial and
    they say if you dont have one you are not in.
    In meaning using wireless cells, or being cool!

  • McDonalds is really good at advertising. They
    never change their logo so you can always
    recognize their logo wherever you go. The slogan
    they used to have was We love to see you smile.
    This slogan will put a smile on everyones face
    and will make their stomachs want some of their
    food because they make it sound good.

  • Some of McDonalds techniques are to make you feel
    good about buying their food. For example, when
    you buy their food you will be giving money to
    help people at the Ronald McDonald House.

    about it, you will want to buy some of their
    food.
