Lori Schor, and Dr. Raynor for all their help and
guidance!

Waste Production
  • Teachers should be double-siding all of their
    assignments
  • -If a teacher does not know how to do so, they
can be easily taught by one of their
colleagues, or by a student who knows how to
    do so.
  • Many of the teachers in our school have a teacher
webpage on our schools website. Teachers should
    be electronically posting assignments, rather
    than wasting paper.
  • Most teachers, if not all, have an e-mail account
and should allow students to submit assignments
through e-mail. The assignment could be sent to
the teacher in a word document. This is an easy
process, and once the teacher receives the
document, he or she can make corrections on the
computer, and e-mail it back to the student.

RECYCLED PAPER
Fact Over 75 of our schools waste is paper
Goal replace Virgin paper goods with post
consumer, or recycled, paper products Why is this
important? Support recycling projects, save
resources
Currently paying roughly 30,000 per year for 0
post-consumer office paper
Could be paying around 13, 900 per year for 30
post consumer reamed paper
This is through Rutgers WB Mason likely has 100
post consumer at a higher price.
Bottom Line our contributions support recycling
endeavors while limiting the use of energy and
preserving resources
This small but significant difference will help
our school become the environmentally friendly
institution which we are working towards!
4
RECYCLING BINS-Up until January, Solomon
Schechter had no recycling system there
were no paper, can or bottle bins. -Most of the
schools trash was made up of recyclable waste.
5
  • On our schools community service day, on January
15th, The Green Faith, Green Flag members created
recycling bins for cans, bottles, and paper.
  • The bins were placed in most of the school
    classrooms, offices and hallways.
  • Now we need your help with bringing out the
    recyclables.

6
Cleaning Service

Goal get the cleaning service to empty the
recycling bins Why is this important? students
are making an effort to recycle and the
bins fill up very quickly Methods talk to the
cleaning service company and if they are
unwilling, find another cleaning company
7
Recycling at the Lower School
  • Goal Start a recycling program at the lower
    school
  • Why it is important? any garbage company that we
use will do garbage and recycling for both
campuses, if we get the kids at the lower school
used to the idea of recycling, they will help
support the recycling efforts once they come to
    the upper school

8
FOOD WASTE
Goal To reduce the amount of food waste
production at school
Why is this important? Wasted foods are
incinerated or dumped into landfills, harming our
environment some wasted food can be composted
Methods Create an easy and effective compost
system Offer portion sizes on the lunch
menu In addition to altering portion sizes,
we plan to alter the Styrofoam packaging of hot
meals on certain days to a biodegradable material
9
Extra Funds
Fact switching garbage companies would save the
school around 6000 each year
Goal Take some of the money that is being saved
from switching companies and create a fund for
the recycling efforts Why is this important?
Having a recycling fund is important because it
will make it easier to keep what we have/ will do
and make sure that future grades are able to keep
it running
10
Garbage Company
Goal start a contract with a garbage company
that recycles
Why is this important? With the recycling bins
out and students making more of an effort to
recycle, we need a way of getting the recyclables
to the collection center Methods at the moment
Lori Schor has been making runs to the collection
center with all of the paper and Mr. Lederman has
been doing the same with the bottles and cans.
While this is doing the job at the present time,
we need a permanent solution.
11
Other Sources of Energy
Fact we can get energy from other resources that
are renewable instead of using the fossil
fuels that we are using now to power our school
Here are some companies that use renewable energy
