Background
  • Formed in 2004 Government Funded Programme
    through the Youth Sport Trust.
  • Partnership of 6 secondary schools, 41 primary
    schools and 1 special school approximately
    11,600 pupils.
  • Establish a national infrastructure for PE and
    School Sport
  • Improve the quality of teaching, coaching and
    learning
  • Increase the range of sports available to all
    children of all abilities in schools
  • Increase participation levels and the number of
    young people guided into clubs
  • High quality competition and festivals
  • Establish a gifted and talented programme

  • Imagine a time and place where PE and school
    sport plays a central
  • role in the improvement of self esteem,
    confidence, attainment,
  • attendance and behaviour and the regeneration of
    local
  • communities where every young person has the
    opportunity to
  • engage in quality sporting activity with clearly
    defined pathways of
  • progression where everyone is able to fulfil
    their own potential
  • with the possibility of lifelong participation
    and where the nations
  • future champions are made.

Staffing Structure
  • PDM - full time
  • manages the partnership and develops strategic
    links with the LEA, sports development, NGBs, and
    other local partners
  • SSCo - released from teaching for 2 days per
    week
  • co-ordinates development of PE and school sport
    in their own school and associated family of
    primary / special schools
  • PLT - released from teaching for 12 days per
    year
  • ensures planning and delivery of PE and sport in
    own school
  • SLT - 1 SLT for every 2 SSCos
  • enables SSCo to be released from teaching
    timetable brings specialist experience to
    delivery of PE curriculum

The Main Target (2004 Onwards)
  • Government Public Service Agreement Target
  • Enhance the take up of sporting opportunities by
  • 5-16 year olds by increasing to 75 the
    percentage
  • of school children spending at least 2 hours a
    week
  • on high quality PE and school sport, within and
  • beyond the curriculum by 2006 and to 85 by
  • 2008.
