Goals
  • Maximize efficiency-take material effects into
    account
  • Increase modularity/replace-ability
  • Define upgrade path - identify the various
    elements
  • Use GEANE/Kalman filtering techniques
  • Move F-gtC - Move StEvent upstream (how much?)
  • StEvent at least replace table-based DSTs
  • User is always accessing data via StEvent

Short term
  • We do not want to touch the guts of the tracker
  • No justified need for it - tracker complies with
    general requirements
  • Maintenance/Fixes are important (Iwonas primary
    task these days)
  • We should start thinking about a possible upgrade
  • Format/Responsibilities need to be defined
  • Integrate TRS and embedding chain into
    bfc/production
  • Continue calibrations/database work
  • Extend Kalman to primary track fitting
  • needs to be resolved/tested/implemented in the
    next 2-3 months
  • (Al, Yuri, Spiros, Helen and probably a guest)

  • Upgrade vertex fitter (medium priority - 6
    months)
  • usage of proper propagation routines
  • move to C/possible merging with lmv
  • (Lanny, Ben, Joakim, Spiros, Lee)
  • Optimize year-2 global tracking and assess its
    performance (medium priority - 6 months)
  • Test/define best sequences for SVT, SVTSSD
  • Identify possible upgrades/new algorithms
  • (Helen, Lilian, Lanny, Lee, Spiros plus help)

  • Evaluate tools (medium priority - 6 months)
  • GEANE evaluation and upgrading
  • (Yuri, Lee plus some help plus geometry support)
  • Kalman filtering (understand, choose
    flavor/language)
  • This is closely connected to tracking upgrade
    effort and it also has longer term components in
    it
  • Collaboration with community a must
  • (Al, Yuri, Spiros plus big help from
    inside/outside)

Longer term (wish list)
  • Develop a new modular TPC tracker based on Kalman
  • needs RD group
  • Global tracking using only propagator/Kalman
    tools
  • TPC track to SVT point (Lilian et al plus local
    help)
  • TPC track to SVT track (???)
  • pre-analysis code
  • Depending on outcome of assessment tests possible
    need for improved algorithms.

Summary
  • There is need for new tools but also need to
    develop inside expertise
  • Collaboration with outside experts is a must.
    Resources to do this need to be provided
  • There is room and need for about 3 full time
    software people for 1-1.5 years (not FTEs). The
    level should be very good Ph.D. student or better
  • People should participate in decision making
    processes
