    Nature Reserves and Wildlife Sites.

  • So far this year the extended opening hours for
    Parndon Wood during the school holidays has
    proved extremely popular with over 1500 children
    alone visiting.
  • Parndon Wood will again be open during the
  • October half-term 26th-30th
  • Christmas holidays December
  • 21st-23rd and 28th-31st
  • Opening hours will once again be
  • Tuesday Wednesday 1pm-4pm
  • Thursday Friday 9.30am-12.30pm

Wildspace! Events Winter/Autumn 2009 Unless
stated all events require booking! Please phone
01279 430005 and leave a name and number to be
contacted on.
September Saturday 5th- Seed Collection
12-2pm Join the Warden for a wander around the
woods in search of seeds before the Squirrels get
to them! Saturday 12th Acorn Group 9am-12pm Join
the staff at Parndon Wood to help carryout some
conservation work and learn more about what
wildlife lives in the woods. (Suitable for 12-16
year olds). Tuesday 22nd- Bat and moth night
7-9pm Come along to Parndon Wood to live trap and
identify some very weird and colourful
moths. Wednesday 23rd- Greenteam Volunteers
10am-2pm Come along for some fresh air amongst
one of our many wildlife sites in Harlow and
learn more about how their managed. No experience
necessary and all tools and equipment provided.

Annual Conker Championships 1-3pm Come along to
Parndon Wood for the 2nd Annual Conker
Championships. Will the defending champion come
back to defend their title or will a new conker
king be crowned! Conkers and protective equipment
will be provided. October Saturday 10th- Acorn
Group 9am-12pm Join the staff at Parndon Wood to
help carryout some conservation work and learn
more about what wildlife lives in the woods.
(Suitable for 12-16 year olds). Sunday 11th-
Fungi Walk- 11am-1pm Pop down to Parndon Wood for
a fungal foray amongst the trees. Last year all
sorts of weird and wonderful mushrooms and
toadstools were discovered. Wednesday 21st-
Greenteam Volunteers 10am-2pm Come along for some
fresh air amongst one of our many wildlife sites
in Harlow and learn more about how their managed.
No experience necessary and all tools and

31st- Halloween 7-9pm Wander down to Parndon Wood
if you dare for a spooky walk around the trail.
This is a ticket only event so please book early.
No entry without a ticket.

  • Sunday 29th- Feed the birdies 1-3pm
  • Help our feathered friends get through the winter
    by making fat balls and nut feeders.
  • December
  • Sunday 6th- Tree dressing 1-3pm
  • Come down to Parndon Wood to learn more about our
    leafy friends and try your hand at decorating
    your favourite tree.
  • Saturday 12th- Acorn Group 9am-12pm

Flagship Species 2009
Harlow's Flagship species for 2009 is Songbirds,
more specifically Skylarks and Song Thrushes.
Both species of bird are in decline nationally
and throughout 2009 the Biodiversity team will be
running surveys across the Town. You can help by
letting us know of sightings in your area.

Parndon Wood winter opening hours are as follows
from 1st October 31st March 2010. Sundays
11.00am - 4.00pm New Years Day 11.00am
- 4.00pm Other times can be arranged by
appointment for community groups and school
visits.
Skylark and Song Thrush
If you think you may have seen on of these birds
or any song bird you are unable to identify
please let glenn.mulleady_at_harlow.gov.uk know
about it.
