Christ Plus Nothing
  • Galatians 11-24

4
Something To Think About!
  • In 25 B.C., the Romans made the kingdom of
Galatia into an imperial province under a Roman
governor and also added territory in the south.
It seems rather definite that Paul was using
Galatia to refer to the Roman provincethus
including all of Galatia. When the Galatian
churches were founded, on Pauls first missionary
journey, people from many different backgrounds
responded to his preaching and were converted.
Paul implied in Galatians 48 that the majority
    were heathen in background.

KEY VERSE
Galatians 18 But though we, or an angel from
heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than
that which we have preached unto you, let him be
accursed.
6
  • Lesson Objectives
  • To understand the true message of salvation found
    in Jesus Christ alone
  • To rejoice in the fact of Jesus Christs
    resurrection
  • To uphold the simple truths of the gospel

7
  • THE GOSPEL FOR THE GALATIANS
  • Galatians 11-5

8
  • At the very heart of the truth of salvation is
the fact that Christ gave himself for our sins
(verse 4). We should put forth every effort to
keep this foremost in our thinking. No human
works and no human merit could ever pay for our
sins. Christ canceled our sin debt when He died
for us. This is the foundational truth of
    Christianity.

9
  • THE ONLY GOSPEL
  • Galatians 16-9
  • The Seriousness of Perversion (6-7)
  • 1 Thessalonians 212 524
  • 2 Timothy 19
  • A Curse Deserved (8-9)

10
  • Paul clearly understood the gospel of the grace
of God. We should make certain the gospel we
believe and teach is the same as the gospel Paul
preached. The gospel of Christ is free from any
mixture of human works or law-keeping conditions.
Anyone who truly repents and believes can be
    saved.

11
  • THE REVELATION OF THE GOSPEL TO PAUL
  • Galatians 110-16
  • Not After Man (10-12)
  • Contrast With His Past (13-14)
  • Acts 91
  • Supernatural Conversion (15-16)

12
  • Our sin-soaked minds often remind us of our past
sins and failures. God could never forgive you
for that. God does not love someone who has
messed up so much. All of these thoughts are
lies. Paul, whose past included sins of hate and
murder, understood that the grace of God extends
to all people, no matter the crime or guile.

13
  • THE LIMITED INFLUENCE OF MEN ON PAUL
  • Galatians 117-24
  • Withdrawal to Arabia (17)
  • Acts 920-27 2 Corinthians 1132-33
  • Brief Contact With Apostles (18-20)
  • Mark 63 1 Corinthians 157 Acts 114 Galatians
    29 Acts 928
  • Separation From Judea (21-24)

14
  • It should thrill, excite, and please us that the
gospel that changed our lives, which we share
with others, is of divine origin. Humanity had
nothing to do with it. It came directly from
Godand still changes lives todayjust as it did
    in Pauls day!

15
  • QUESTIONS FOR STUDY AND DISCUSSION
  • 1. Why was it so important to Paul to say his
apostleship did not come from man?
  • 2. What is Pauls testimony in verses 13-14
    intended to illustrate?
  • 3. What difference did it make that Paul had not
had the opportunity to be discipled by one of the
    other apostles?
  • 4. List things you think Paul may have done while
    he was in Arabia.
  • 5. How can the church defend the integrity of the
    gospel? How can you?
  • 6. What can be learned from Paul about humility?
