Your key to school technology!
2
Why a Policy?
  • Schools must use tax money for educational
    purposes.
  • Public areas are different from private spaces.
  • School must be a safe place.
  • We must obey laws.
  • Schools have a right to check on your school
    technology use.

3
What can I do?
  • Use technology in school for educational
    purposes.
  • Use Internet at school only with permission from
    a present, supervising adult.
  • Take care of school technology, leaving it in
good working order, organized, and ready for the
    next person.

4
What should I avoid?
  • Dont view or send anything that is obscene,
vulgar, racist, sexually explicit, or offensive.
Tell a teacher if you come across inappropriate
    information.
  • Never give out personal information about
    yourself or others.
  • Do not misrepresent yourself.
  • Do not access, remove, change or harm
    another persons work.

5
At school, can I ..
  • Play or download games?
  • Chat or use Instant Messaging with friends on
    computers?
  • Email my brother that he is a jerk?
  • Download music for personal use?
  • Buy things on the Internet?
  • NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!!!!
  • SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES!

6
The Bottom Line
  • Using school technology is a privilege, not a
    right.
  • Be respectful and responsible when in school.
  • Respect the privacy of others.
  • Give credit whenever you use anothers work, even
from the Internet. Dont copy or cheat.

7
Whats next?
  • Become familiar with the AUP guidelines.
  • Review them with your parents or guardians.
  • Sign off that you and they are familiar with the
    rules.
  • Return your signed AUP to your teacher.
  • Happy Learning!
