2Historical Collection Overview
- Collection consists of
- Hardware (Missiles, Targets, models, components,
displays) - Documentation (books, reports, memos, drawings,
art, ephemera) - Imagery (Photo, Motion Picture, Video, Digital)
- Sound recordings (Oral Histories)
- Collection resides in three buildings (112, 52,
and 6-31) - Inventory and organization of the collection in
Bldg 112 is incomplete but ongoing - 10,000 documents
- 10,000 rolls of motion picture film
- 20,000 photographs and negatives
- thousands of 35mm slides
- thousands of video tapes
- more than 100 pieces of hardware
- bookcase material important to research (at
least 100) - Oral History audio tape collection
- New accessions and donations ongoing

8Priority for Continuing Efforts
- Complete organization and inventory efforts using
standards common to Navy Museums. - Transfer imagery to sustainable media (DVD)
- Establish procedures for research activities
- Capture contemporary items of historical interest
- Establish relationships for cooperation and
support/advice - China Lake Museum
- Seabee Museum
- National Institute of Science and Technology
- Ronald Reagan Presidential Library
- Local universities History Departments (draft
letter) - Navy Air Museum at Pensacola
- Historian of the Navy (register the inventory)
9Challenges
- Access Point Mugu by volunteers (badges and car
passes). - Access to inventory on the base (behind the
fence). - Access to donors of historical items , materials
and excess furniture (file cabinets, bookshelves,
etc.) and transport to Bldg 112. (I.E. -
Materials available if we come to pick it up.) - Classification and restrictions on hardware,
documents and imagery. - Declassification (Confidential and below)
- Release for photos.
- Continuing civil service support.
- To include DD1149 transfer responsibility
- Designation of an agent for interface with
outside organizations.

- Remarkable progress though hard work and
dedication has been made over the past three
years. - Organization of the inventory process, including
capture of collection items. - Organization of building 112.
- Estimating the magnitude of the inventory.
- Recognition of the importance of this collection.
- Use of Building 112 as a command asset.
11Conclusion
- The MTHA and Point Mugu Alumni Association stand
prepared to support this collection through
volunteers and through liaison with other
organizations. - We need help with certain interfaces that require
a NAWCWD official. - This effort requires continuing civil service
support.
