Quick Housekeeping
  • You can hear us, but we cant hear you, so use
your panel to send us questions, answers and
    comments.
  • This webinar is being recorded, therefore you
will be able to access it from www.sophia-associat
    es.com website for future viewing.
  • When using collaboration tools, streaming video
is delayed, so the video will be a bit choppy
when we open the sim demos. You will hear the
voice of the characters but it wont be synced.
  • There will be several polling questions that we
ask that you answer for us from your panel
  • Please let us know via the chat feature on your
panel if you would like us to follow up with you.

WHAT IS METIS??
  • An integrated learning approach that develops
skills and competencies through a combination of
    learning technologies
  • A cutting-edge approach to executive and talent
development that combines the best coaching and
training strategies with state of the art
    computer simulation technology

8
The Three Elements
  • Self Learning
  • Social Learning
  • SIMbolic Learning

9
Self Learning
  • Independent Study such as a self-directed course
    of study
  • One-to-one executive coaching that builds on
    self-awareness to self-correction to
    self-generating
  • Mentoring as guided learning

10
Social Learning
  • Traditional classroom training
  • Peer-to-Peer Learning
  • Cohort Coaching
  • Team or Group Coaching

11
SIMbolic Learning?
  • Interactive computer simulations that mimic
    real-life scenarios
  • Pre-emptive learning through simulations that
moves a participant through a potential event in
order to prepare him for that eventuality
  • Risk-free practice of skills without consequences
on real-life allows the learner maximum
    creativity and stretching

A New Learning Paradigm
  • Show me dont just tell me
  • Let me do it myself where and when I can
  • It must be relevant and challenging and fun
  • I need immediate feedback and to see the outcome
    of my actions
  • It must be interactive so that I can impact the
    outcome (video games)
  • It must be state-of-the-art cool to keep me
    interested

15
Questions for CLOs and Talent Development
Executives
  • What do our people have to know and apply to
compete in a global market in the future?
  • What do we need to invest to achieve this?
  • What is the cost of not investing in our future?
  • How quickly will learning turn into experience?

16
What is SIMbolic Learning??
  • SIMbolic Learning uses computer based simulations
that complement training programs or can stand
    alone
  • Simulations may be custom designed to your
company or can be off-the-shelf while still
providing a solution that moves learning from
    theory to action
  • Interactive computer simulations that mimic
    real-life scenarios
  • Pre-emptive learning through simulations that
moves a participant through a potential event in
order to prepare him for that eventuality
  • Risk-free practice of skills without consequences
on real-life allows the learner maximum
    creativity and stretching

17
SIMbolic Learning? vs. E-Learning
  • Unlike e-learning which is based in a linear
    format, simulation-based learning is non-linear-
the participant must choose between If this
    then what principle
  • The participant influences the outcome of the
scenario based on the decisions or paths chosen
  • Your actions result in outcomes good or bad
  • Immediate feedback from a virtual coach is
    available
  • The simulation moves to resolution keeping the
participant actively engaged in the learning
    process

18
Interviewing Skills Demo
  • Learning Objectives
  • Interview legalities
  • Improving interviewing skills
  • Generating open-ended communication
  • Interviewing as it supports on-boarding and
    retention savings

19
SIMbolic Learning? is different because
  • The highest level of learning occurs
experientially - without risk or real-life
    consequences
  • Learn about issues by actively performing them
  • Common experience for real and virtual teams for
    discussion, analysis and immediate feedback
  • Time is compressed In 3 hours, you can run a 1
    year simulated corporate lifecycle
  • Highest Level of Intrinsic Motivation
    Interaction available in training today!

20
Business Acumen and Leadership Execution
Simulations
  • Based on models SI has developed for executive
education in the worlds leading business
    schools, leadership and business acumen
simulations act as tools to facilitate a way for
corporate management teams to interact and learn
    from each other.
  • These simulations mimic the strategy behind
operating a global company and how you deal with
various parts of the world that have their own
    economic issues.
  • You see 5 years of your decisions and business
consequences in a 2-3 day program.
  • The objectives of these types of programs are to
    build business, financial and interpersonal
skills as well as to foster the enterprise-wide
    capability of future leaders.

Questions to Ask Yourself
  • What do our people have to know and apply to
compete in a global market in the future?
  • What do we need to invest to achieve this?
  • What is the cost of not investing in our future?
  • How quickly will learning turn into experience?

29
Using METIS
  • Develop programs in alignment with the strategic
    objectives
  • During the training, choose appropriate times to
run the simulation off a laptop and have
interactive discussions as a large group or as
small groups about the decisions in the scenarios
  • The class applies their learning through doing
and discussion of decisions and outcomes
  • After the training, the simulation may be placed
online for participants to access as a refresher.
  • Documentation may be linked to the simulation.
  • The simulation can be CD based to handout with
    training workbooks or Web-based.
