1. What is LeCAP?
  • An online, web-based application form for
    applications to all FE institutions within
    Leicestershire
  • Accessed by Year 11 students through a website
    which allows them to search for courses online
    and them make a single application for a range of
    courses and institutions
  • Allows staff to monitor and assist Year 11 with
    their next steps
  • UCAS for Year 11

Before you start Key Considerations
  • Computer access and time? Survey home computer
    use if it is limited in schools
  • Staff competence in IT. Its a simple system to
    use, but some staff do struggle.
  • Managing the change Gently and slowly but firmly
    - SLT support is vital.
  • Ensure a high level of support is in place in
    school for tutors.
  • Ensure more than one point of contact for
    students.
  • Try to train during Summer Term if possible.

  • Introduce LeCAP to Year 11 Students

  • Generate and distribute student and tutor
    passwords

    applications and troubleshooting

  • Investigate and identify suitable courses and
    colleges/6th forms Including use of Course
    Finder, the online prospectus, to select
    favourite courses
  • Write personal statements for Achievements and
    Activities and Reasons for Choice
  • Make Connexions appointments
  • Attend Careers Evening

Application Process _at_ Ashby
  • Start investigation and personal statements
    early in the autumn term
  • Start completion online in November
  • Discuss with parents and advisers and narrow
    down choices in December
  • Tutors start references in Nov/Dec
  • Complete form by end of Autumn term and send
  • Tutors add attendance record, complete
    reference and check form in by 9th January
  • Connexions Tutors chase up outstanding
    applications

After Submission
  • February to April - Main interview time for 1st
    and 2nd choices. Connexions assisting with
    apprenticeship applications.
  • Mid April most students will get an offer or
    their forms will be passed to their 3rd choice
  • By 10th May students should accept offers and
    not hold more than one definite offer.
  • 21st Aug after results received, if in doubt
    about choices or acceptance, contact the school
    or college or seek advice from Connexions
