2
Practice Good Foot Care
  • Clean, dry feet can lower the risk of both foot
    odor and fungus infections.
  • Feet should be washed every day with soap and
lukewarm water, especially between the toes, then
dried completely with a soft towel.
  • Trim toenails straight across, but not too short.
Be careful not to cut toenails in corners or on
the sides it can lead to ingrown toenails.

3
Inspect Your Feet
  • Inspect your feet regularly for cuts, blisters,
calluses, sores, or redness, especially if you
    have diabetes.
  • Pay attention to changes in color and temperature
    of your feet.
  • Look for thick or discolored nails (a sign of
    developing fungus).
  • Any pain or growth on the foot is not considered
    normal.

4
Choose the Right Footwear
  • Choose a shoe that is the right size and shape
for your feet. Styles like high heels or pointed
    toes can hurt feet.
  • Try not to wear vinyl or plastic shoes, because
    they don't stretch or "breathe."
  • Select and wear the proper shoe for the activity
that you are engaged in (i.e., running shoes for
    running).
  • Alternate shoes- don't wear the same pair of
    shoes every day.

5
Protect Your Feet
  • Avoid walking barefooted- your feet will be more
    prone to injury and infection.
  • Wear hiking shoes or boots in rough terrain.
  • Always wear hard-top shoes when operating a lawn
    mower or other grass-cutting equipment.
  • Use cotton socks while exercising or playing
sports and remember to change socks frequently.
