Access to fMRI Facility
After completion of certification to operate
scanner, request access to the scanner suite
from me. Bernie will authorize your ID/prox
card. This system records every individuals
entry. Access to the waiting room suite is with
a key beginning with H. This may be your office
key. If not, you can see me for a key. We
prefer that you use the waiting room to screen
subjects.
14
Access to EEG and TMS facilities
Request a key to access the EEG lab from Jack
Gelfand. Request a key to access the TMS lab
from Keith Schneider.
15
Certification to Operate Equipment
The CSBMB requires everyone to complete training
to become certified to run the scanner, EEG or
TMS equipment. Only Princeton University
employees (or graduate students) are eligible to
complete the training and receive
certification. Training and certification is
primarily the responsibility of your lab. All
certifications MUST be filed with the Center.

  • Study Approved by the IRP
  • Complete Human Subject Training
  • Recruit Subjects
  • Safety and Consent Forms
  • In the Event of an Anomaly

27
Getting the Study Approved
  • Princeton Institutional Review Panel (IRP)
  • composed of Faculty, Staff and community
    members
  • charged with protecting interests and rights of
human subjects involved in research projects
    conducted by Princeton University Investigators

28
Getting the Study Approved
  • Complete Questionnaire A on ORPAs (Office of
    Research and Project Adminstration) website
    http//www.princeton.edu/orpa1/irp.htm.
  •
  • Include copy of consent form. See Donna or
    Andrew for assistance.

  • ORPA, 4 New South Building
  • File latest copy of submission with Center

29
Getting the Study Approved
  • All questionnaires must be submitted to the IRP
generally twelve (12) days before the IRP's
    meeting.

Human Subject Training and Certification
All University personnel who interact with human
subjects or with identifiable subject data as
part of this research project must complete
training and be so certified prior to initiating
contact with subjects or identifiable subject
data. Visit the NIH training website Human
Participant Protections Education for Research
Teams http//69.5.4.33/c01/. When completed a
Proof of Completion certificate should be sent
to Andrew Sylvester in ORPA, 4 New South
Building, ORPA or emailed to asylvest_at_princeton.ed
u. Copy must also be filed with the Center.
31
Human Subject Training and Certification
In the section of the grant applications that
deals with human subjects, the following
statement and information must be provided
The following key personnel have completed
Princeton Universitys Human Subject Protection
Program. This self-directed instructional
program is designed to provide education in the
ethics and regulations governing the use of human
subjects in research. The program is based upon
the NIH training website Human Participant
Protections Education for Research Teams
Listing of Names follows
