  • Objective 6.1 Partner with companies and
organizations worldwide, to enhance the public
understanding and awareness of the contributions
of engineers and the engineering profession to
the global economy and quality of life.

5
Issue
  • The general public is not aware of the
contributions of engineers to their daily lives.
  • Sub-objective Educate the general public about
how technology influences our daily lives and the
    role that engineers play.

6
Actions
  • 6.1.1 Research and identify companies and
organizations worldwide that address the issues
of this Goal. (UNESCO or other U.N. Bodies)
  • 6.1.2 Research to establish the extent to which
the terms engineering and engineers are being
used and portrayed in advertising and other
media. ( Look into research currently being done
at universities to see if there is an opportunity
to partner, including NSF, UEF etc)
  • 6.1.3 Develop a concept and a proposal for a
Global Summit on Public Awareness of Engineering.

7
PUBLIC AWARENESS
  • Goal 6 To enhance the perceived status of

the feasibility and design of an IEEE research
study on global perceptions of engineering.
    (Harris Poll as a benchmark)
  • 6.2.3 Determine the feasibility of expanding
    E-Week globally.
  • 6.2.4 Identify what IEEE is doing to address the
issues on the image of the engineer. (Find out
what is going on with AAES and IEEE-USA)
