Start By a. Separate the torque converter from
the transmission. Refer to Disassembly and
Assembly, "Torque Converter, Transmission and
Transfer Gear - Separate".

NOTICE Care must be taken to ensure that fluids
are contained during performance of inspection,
maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of
the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid
with suitable containers before opening any
compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication,
NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for
tools and supplies suitable to collect and
contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all
fluids according to local regulations and
mandates.

ring (1). Remove retarder rotor (2).

    side of retarder rotor (2).
  • Remove carrier (3).

Note The carrier will be destroyed when the
carrier is removed from the retarder.

4. Remove bolts (5). Remove race (6).

  • Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device
    to housing assembly (7). The weight of housing
    assembly (7) is approximately 73 kg (160 lb).
  • Remove housing assembly (7) from the torque
    converter.

help to prevent dirt from entering the internal
mechanism. NOTICE Care must be taken to ensure
that fluids are contained during performance of

the fluid with suitable containers before
