WHAT IS SMOKE TESTING

The smoke testing is also known as the build
validation test. It is a software testing method
that includes several non-exhaustive tests to
ensure that the main features of the product are
working properly. The results of this test play
an important role in determining whether the
build can proceed to the critical testing
phase. Smoke testing is a term derived from the
electronics industry itself. If the hardware
component is being repaired and begins to operate
without smoke, the hardware component has passed
the test. Smoke testing covers almost all major
features of a software product, but does not go
into detail.

What was revealed in the smoke test was
considered important for further testing. If the
product passes this test, further testing should
be performed. On the other hand, if this test
fails, you should focus on getting a new version
with the necessary changes rather than thinking
about further tests. If your app isn't good
enough to pass the first tests, spend time
elsewhere instead of doing detailed tests. This
is mainly taken into account during system
testing, acceptance testing, and integration
testing. It does not replace regression or
functional testing. Smoke testing gives you the
freedom to choose test cases related to a
critical component or function of your software
product. The goal is not to carry out exhaustive
tests, but to verify that the critical functions
of the system are working correctly. Based on the
results obtained from the smoke test, the tester
can make important decisions about whether the
product is stable and whether to proceed to the
next testing step.

After the smoke test, the tester should ask
themselves some very basic questions. Can I
access the software application? Is the GUI
responsive? Can users easily navigate between
different windows? Each project has multiple
modules, connections, user view, task creation,
new user creation, detailed users page,
etc. The smoke test verifies all functions
associated with these modules. So we check if the
user can log in with their login credentials, if
the user can see it easily after logging in, etc.
These tests are performed by the development
team before the release is released to the
testing team.

IMPORTANT TIPS FOR PERFORMING SMOKE TESTS
www.devstringx.com
  • Run smoke tests during the early level of a
project or product Regularly record all the
    smoke tests
  • Smoke tests shouldn't take quite an hour
  • These tests should be conducted for each sprint
and each release These tests are essential to be
performed for every new build deployed Essential
to take care of a test suit repository
  • Automate smoke tests wherever possible to scale
back time and price Run smoke tests for all
    important functionalities over new builds

CONCLUSION
www.devstringx.com
There are many benefits to smoke testing at an
early stage of merchandise development. Hence,
this testing process should be adopted because it
quickly evaluates the essential functionalities
of a replacement build and ensures whether the
build is suitable to be moved for further
testing. Therefore, while performing on software
products, enterprises should take into
consideration smoke testing as a crucial testing
process to gauge the build stability. Leverage
testing services providers' end-to-end functional
and non-functional testing services to realize
quality products. Apart from that, we have
written a detailed blog on W hat Is Smoke
Testing?, Kindly visit Read Enjoy!
