Health is a condition of well being free of
disease or infirmity and a basic human right

All people in all countries should have such A
level of health that they are capable of working
productively and participating actively in the
social life of the community in which they live

Inequalities in health are differences that are
avoidable, unfair and systematic
Inequality
Working Together for a Healthier Scotland
housing, a clean environment, employment, access
to leisure activities and a good education
confer health benefits
The Inverse Care Law emphasis's the phenomenon
whereby those in greater need receive poorer
services whereas the middle classes, where need
is less, receive better care (Julian Tudor Hart )
Typically, socially marginal and economically
deprived groups have the greatest need
for Health care but are least able to obtain it
e.g. poverty, cannot speak the dominant language,
age, Sex, ethnic minority and geography

with others in society without discrimination
What are the human rights of ethnic minorities?
Freedom from any distinction,exclusion, restricti
on based on colour, race, religion etc
Participate in shaping decisions and
policies concerning their group and community at
all levels
Enjoy rights to maintain and enjoy their culture,
religion,and language free from discrimination

NRCEM is funded by the NHS Executive of Scotland
and is located within the Public Health Institute
of Scotland.
Three key areas of work include
The primary aim of the NRCEM
To support NHS Boards and Trusts through Scotland
in the development of culturally competent
services so that service delivery is
sensitive,integrated into mainstream responsive
to the needs of disadvantaged communities
