Title: MOVING FORWARD:

1
MOVING FORWARD
  • STATEWIDE PROGRESS OF MOFAS GRANTEES

2
Overview
  • Building Capacity
  • Leveraging Resources
  • Regional Community Networks (RCNs)
    Collaboration
  • Year 2 Quarterly Report Forms

3
Statewide Grantee Progress
  • A main purpose of the MOFAS Community Grants
program is to help RCNs leverage their resources
and build their capacity to collaborate so that
they can implement culturally competent, FASD
    prevention, intervention, and support activities
and services in a more coordinated and
comprehensive fashion. The end goal is a
sustainable network of FASD services in each
funded region that will continue beyond the
window of MOFAS Community Grant funding

4
Building Capacity
  • Building knowledge and skills, particularly of
    first-points-of-contact
  • Training for professionals and lay people
involved with persons with FASD and their
    families

5
Activity Highlights
Activities reached a total of 7,208 people
6
Highlights Contd
7
Building Capacity
  • Strengthening the ability of professionals and
    lay persons to work together
  • Building relationships and communication channels
  • Achieving greater consensus on (and more
consistent implementation of) best practices for
    prevention, assessment and support

8
Grantee Interview Highlights Collaboration
  • Each grantee RCN functions differently
  • RCN member collaboration is limited
  • Caveat Form / Nature was not specified for
    grantees

9
Grantee Interview Highlights Sustainability
  • Plans are not clearly delineated for most in
    this early stage
  • Education of professionals and laypersons is
    primary focus important first step
  • Theory of change is unspecified -- no matter
what approach, think about how the activity is a
    step toward making sustainable change

10
Leveraging Resources
  • Achieving greater economy of scale in planning
    and implementing prevention, intervention and
    support activities
  • Sharing information, knowledge, tools, and
    resources for common goals
  • Helping existing programs or networks leverage
their resources to conduct needed activities

11
Activity Highlights
  • Total of activity hours 168.5

13
Grantee Interview Highlights Leveraging Resources
  • A key strategy of this initiative is to
bring the right people to the table. Grants are
expected to assess the capacity of existing
agencies to address FASD, and to recruit
membership based both on the strengths and the
needs within their region. Grants should seek to
build or expand their RCN to include
professionals or laypersons that represent a
variety of sectors, have a history of working
within the field of FASD, have available
resources and influence within the region, and
    have a history of collaboration.

14
Statewide Look at RCN Composition
15
Regional Community Networks (RCNs)
Collaboration
  • Involve groups of partnering agencies and
    organizations that include representation from
    various sectors
  • Build regional capacity based on existing
infrastructure as this represents the best way to
    sustain efforts over time

16
Grantee Interview Highlights RCNs
  • RCN memberships are formative and still emerging
  • Membership from a variety of sectors /
    influential persons
  • Most RCNs are addressing a full range of FASD
    workprevention, intervention, identification,
    diagnosis and support
  • Grantees visions for their RCNs appear to be on
the right track and their progress after six
    months of funding is good

17
RCN Highlights Contd
  • Collaboration 1) the form / nature is not
specified for grantees 2) RCN member
    collaboration is limited
  • Some grantees are using a silo approach to
member involvement and others are actively
    linking members together
  • Sustainability 1) plans not clearly delineated
    2) education is primary focus 3) theory of
change is unspecified -- How is the activity a
    step toward making sustainable change?

18
Statewide Progress
  • Grantees visions for their RCNs appear to be on
the right track and their progress after six
    months of funding is good

19
Revised 2007 Quarterly Report Forms
  • Activity Log
  • Network Member Form
  • Narrative
  • Work Plan Progress Table
