    elevated, partly underground is operational.

    Railways.

    construction.
  • Total 6 phases planned.

  • Namma metro started operations over a small
    stretch (9 kms elevated) in 2011.
  • Remaining stretch (total 41 km of Phase 1) under
    construction.

  • Green Line (Mansarovar - Badi Chaupar) 9.25
    km-work in progress (completion by Jun 2013).
    This is mostly elevated but partially
    underground.
  • Orange Line (Sitapura Industrial Area -
    Ambabari)- it will connect Airport.
  • Jaipur metro Jaipur dedicated elevated BRTS
    corridor would run on double decker bridge under
    construction as shown in photo below.

Gurgaon metro
  • Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon (RMRG) of 6.7 km is
    under construction.
  • Indias first privately owned metro.
  • Links Sikandarpura station of Delhi metro with
    DLF city in Gurgaon in a loop fashion.
  • Elevated corridor besides NH 8
  • To be operational by July 2013.

Monorail systems in India
  • Mumbai Monorail- Indias first monorail project
  • Jacob circle- Wadala- Chembur monorail (total 20
    kms)
  • First part (Wadala to Chembur- 11 kms) Expected
    to be operational by Dec 2012.
  • Top speed 80 kmph, average speed 65 kmph
  • Capacity 500 pax/train.
  • Monorail is ideal for quick transport with lesser
    capacity less space requirement.
  • Other Monorail systems are planned in Calicut,
    Trivendrum, Chennai, Guwahati Aizawl.

BRTS- Bus Rapid Transit System
  • BRTS is of use only if built with proper
    planning.
  • Pune- Indias first BRT corridor (Swargate to
    Katraj- 7 kms)
  • It is invocating poor response from road users.

Ahmedabad BRTS
  • It is most successful BRTS project in India.
  • First phase RTO to Kankaria Lake 44.5 km is
    operational.

Delhi BRTS
  • The construction work was started during CWG
    games in 2010.
  • 115 km of BRTS route is under construction.
  • It is invoking criticism with car users but is
    being popular with bus users.
  • Several BRTS systems are under construction in
    other cities like Surat, Chennai, Bangalore,
    Jaipur etc.
  • In Jaipur, there is earmarking of an elevated
    stretch only for BRTS buses.
