  • Additional interaction devices needed
  • Loss of unobtrusiveness

Our Approach Experiment Setup
Use sensors whenever not used during explicit
interaction
  • Machine Learning
  • C4.5 Decision-Tree Algorithm (Weka)
  • Training-Set
  • Standard feature set (mean, variance,
    zero-crossing,)
  • Sensor setup
  • No special sensor tuning or setup!
  • Experiment
  • Device Winspect Wireless Data-Glove
  • 6 Test-Persons
  • 4 right-handers, 2 left-handers
  • Recognition of 3 different activities
  • Hammering, Screwing, No Activity
  • Activities were performed continuously
  • No predefined task sequence

Recognition Results
  • Overall Recognition Rate 89,47
  • No significant difference in recognition
    results between right- and left-handers
  • Results are comparable to others in context
    recognition research

Conclusion
  • Using data-glove sensor for more then one task
    is feasible
  • Comparable recognition rates have been achieved
  • Reduced amount of sensors is needed
  • Usability of applications is positively affected
  • Unobtrusiveness can be kept due to a minimum set
    of sensors needed
  • Problem
  • Without sensor tuning or setup, things can
    become tricky!
  • Open Question
  • How to automatically switch between implicit and
    explicit interaction mode?
