1
The Beautiful Mind Of
Salvador Dali
By Cree Reeves
2
The Life of Dali
  • Salvador Dali was born May 11, 1904 in Figueras,
    Spain.
  • Early in his life, Dali studied art in Barcelona
and Madrid where he learned many painting styles.

3
Surrealism
  • Between 1929-1937 Dali used his method of seeing
images from his subconscious mind to create the
works that made him the worlds best known
    surrealist artist.
  • This style of painting involved Catalian scenery
from his homeland, with images of everyday
objects being presented in an obscure, unusual
    way.

4
Dalis Early Influences
  • One of Dalis biggest influences was Sigmund
    Freuds writings on something called
    subconscious imagery.
  • Another major influence of Dalis was his
affiliation with the Paris Surrealists. This was
a group of artist who investigated aspects of the
    subconscious mind.

5
Examples
  • In this painting, as in many, Dali depicts fried
eggs. The reason for this is Dali claims to
remember being in the womb and seeing Eggs on
the Plate Without the Plate, 1932

Later On ...
  • Later on in Dalis life he became a true
    renaissance man.
  • In addition to painting, Dali was also a jewelry
maker, a photographer, interior designer, film
    maker, and author.
  • His most well known book is The Secret Life of
    Salvador Dali

10
Comparison of Early Work, and Later Work
Afterward in Dalis life, he escaped some of
his Surrealism ideas and went more towards a
life Like approach and made depictions of, The
last supper and many views of Jesus.
11
Compare Contrast
  • The first painting is surrealist, with many
abstract shapes and no real plot or religious
    implication.
  • The second painting, being from later on in his
life, shows mosses in a bible scene and isn't as
    abstract, its more realistic.
  • But both the paintings are still very colorful
and vivid, as Dali liked them to be.
