  • Unit Plan is directed toward third graders (7-8
    yrs).
  • It is a one week process in a normal class room
    setting.
  • The students have previously learned skills on
    computer and Kidspiration software use.

  • RLA.3.1.6- Use graphic organizers and
    visualization techniques to interpret
    information.
  • RLA.3.14- Increase amount of independent reading.
  • SC.3.4.3- Compare physical characteristics and
    behaviors of living organisms and explain how
    they are adapted to a specific environment.
  • SC.3.4.4- Observe and describe relationships
    among organisms in an ecosystem. (E.g. Sequencing
    food chains, behavior, adaptations, predator-prey
    relationships.)
  • SC.3.6.3- Develop respect and responsibility for
    the environment by engaging in conservation
    practices.

Utilize Media and Materials
Day 1
  • Students will construct a KWL chart using
    Kidspiration on the Amazon Rainforest.
  • Introduction to the Amazon Rainforest.
  • Students will complete worksheets on location
    using the assigned website.

Day 2
  • Students will sing a song about the layers of the
    Rainforest.
  • They will construct a factual Pop-up book.

Days 3 4
  • Children will learn about the wildlife within the
    layers of the Rainforest.
  • Make a collage of animals, plants, and insects.
  • Add to and finish their pop-up book.
  • Begin research activity.

Day 5
  • I will present facts on Rainforest conservation.
  • Split into groups of three.
  • Make a Save the Rainforest poster and present
    it to the class
  • Turn in research projects.

Require Learner Participation
  • I allowed the students to use the Internet.
  • I used a group project to help them have fun with
    the Unit.
