Title: How to Import a Photo from a Sony Mavica Digital Camera Into a Word Document

1
How to Import a Photo from a Sony Mavica Digital
Camera Into a Word Document
  • Using Digital Imagery for Proficiency 1.1
  • Example of an artifact for 1.1

2
  • The reason the Sony Mavica was chosen for this
tutorial is because it is the easiest camera to
    use in a school setting.
  • This camera uses a Floppy Disk so it does not
need a connection port (USB port) or cables to
    upload photos to a document.
  • This camera does not need specific digital camera
software to upload pictures, only some type of
    desktop publishing software.
  • It can be used from computer to computer, since
it only needs an a drive to load pictures.
  • It is teacher and student friendly in that it
    is easy to use.

3
Pre-requisite to Importing an Original Photo
from a Digital Camera
  • You need access to a Sony Mavica Digital Camera
    and a floppy disk.

4
  • To add a digital photo to a Microsoft Word
    document
  • Step 1
  • Select the software to use from the Desktop
by clicking on the Start button.

5
Just a side note In this tutorial, whenever the
instructions say click or choose it is
referring to a LEFT mouse click. You will only
use the right mouse button when the instructions
specifically say right-click.
6
  • Step 2
  • Choose Programs on the pop up menu and
then move the cursor over to Microsoft Word.
  • Click on Microsoft Word.

7
  • Step 3
  • Save and name this document and then we will
move on to taking the photo.
  • To Save, click on the little icon that looks
    like a floppy disk.
  • The Save As window will pop up and you need to
    name your document.
  • Make sure the Save in says My Documents so
you know where to find it later.
  • Click on Save.

8
Step 4Getting to Know the Camera
  • Lens Cover-must be removed to take photos
  • Camera Screen-to view the subject of your photo
  • On and Off Button-push in the tiny green button
    and push down
  • Play/Camera Button-put on Camera to take a
picture, put on Play to view the picture you
    took
  • Flash Button-push once and a orange light will
show that the flash is on
  • Disk Slot-where you place the floppy disk

9
Step 5
  • Putting in and taking out the disk from the
    camera.
  • Make sure you put the floppy disk into the camera
with the top of the disk facing you. You can
damage the camera if you put it in incorrectly.
  • To get the disk out, you push the PUSH button
with your left thumb and Disk Eject with your
    right thumb.

10
Step 6
  • Getting the camera ready for taking a picture.
  • With the disk in, turn on the camera and remove
    the lens cap.
  • Turn on the flash button if your photo will be
    taken inside.
  • Make sure the Play/Camera button is on
    Camera.
  • Hold the camera in front of you with the screen
away from your face so you can view the screen
    when taking the photo.
  • Do not take photos with the camera tilted or you
will need other software and skills to turn the
    photo right side up.

11
Step 7
  • Taking the Picture
  • Looking at the view screen, use the W______T
for making the picture wide angle or closer in by
pushing the button towards the W to get a wider
angle or the T to get in closer.
  • Push the round button on top, keeping very
steady, to take the picture. You will hear the
    camera recording.
  • When it stops, push the Play/Camera button to
Play and look in the view screen to see your
    picture.

Push the round button on top to take the picture.
12
Step 8
  • Take the floppy disk out of the camera by pushing
the PUSH button with your left thumb and using
your right thumb to push the Disk Eject and the
    disk will pop out.

13
Step 9
  • Put the disk, with your digital photo on it, in
    your 3 ½ Floppy Drive.
  • Make sure the top of the disk is up.
  • Push it in gently until it clicks.
  • Open up your Word document by clicking on the
Minimized document at the bottom of the
    computer screen on the taskbar.

14
  • Step 10
  • Click Insert on the menu bar, at the top of the
    document.
  • Move the Pointer to Picture, click once and
then move the Pointer to From File.
  • Click once on From File and a new window will
    appear.

15
  • Step 11
  • This new window is called Insert Picture.
  • Check the Look in area and push the tiny arrow
    in the corner.
  • A menu will pop down, pick the 3 ½ Floppy (A)
option and a new window will appear.

16
  • Step 12
  • The Look in area should say 3 ½ Floppy (A).

  • Since you only took one photo, it will say
    Mvc-0001 JPEG Image.
  • If you took more, each will be numbered in order.
Remember the number of the photo you want to
    insert.
  • A picture display is available on later versions
of Office that helps you find the photo you
    want to insert.
  • Double Click on the icon next to Mvc-0001
(or the number of the photo you are choosing if
    it is different.)

17
  • Your picture is now in the Word document
  • Step 13
  • The cursor is at the end of the photo. Press the
Enter key on the keyboard twice and type a
    description of the photo underneath.
  • Press the Save icon that looks like a floppy
    disk on the toolbar.
  • Press the Print icon for an artifact for 1.1,
    digital imagery.

18

    Setup under Page Type.
