  • Madurai is the third largest city in Tamil Nadu
    and is the 25th populated city in India which is
    located on the banks of the River Vaigai.
  • The land in and around Madurai is utilized for
    agricultural activities major crops grown here

    Sugarcane.

Sri Meenakshi
  • Sundareswarar Temple It is the twin temple
    in the temple city of Madurai.
  • This temple has the deities of Meenakshi
    (Parvati) and Sundareswar (Lord Shiva). The
    important feature of this temple is the
    Ayiramkaal Mandapam or the Hall of Thousand
    Pillars.
  • The important festival associated with this
    temple is the Meenakshi Thirukalyanam that is
    celebrated in April every year. The temple will
    be open between 5 am to 1230 pm and between 4 pm
    to 930 pm.

Thirumalai Nayak Palace
  • It is a 17th century AD palace built by the
    king Thirumalai Nayak. This palace is a classic
    mixture of Dravidian and Rajput styles.
  • This palace is considered as one of the
    wonders of the South. It is situated 2 km south
    east of the Meenakshi Amman Temple. Lot of films
    shooting are taken in this palace because of the
    big pillars.
  • The palace is well equipped to perform light
    and sound shows. Palace will be opened between 9
    am to 1 pm and between 2 pm to 5 pm.

Gandhi Memorial Museum
  • Gandhi Museum was established in the year 1959
    and it is one of the five Gandhi Museums in the
    country.
  • This museum has a part of the blood-stained
    garment worn by Gandhiji when he was murdered by
    Nathuram Godse. The palace of Rani Mangammal was
    renovated and converted as Gandhi Museum.
  • It highlights the picture galley of Gandhian
    movement. Museum will be opened between 10 am to
    1 pm and between 2 pm to 530 pm.
