Title: Copper Fittings - Benefits And Types

1
Introduction
  • Copper Fittings
  • Fitting plays an important role in the
reliability and durability of any pipe or tubing
section. A fitting is used to connect the pipes
or tubes of different shapes and sizes. If a
fitting used in any pipe system is not
appropriate then it can affect the in-service
life of that pipe system. Therefore, in any
plumbing work it is necessary to select the
correct fitting. Fittings used for piping systems
are made up of different materials including
copper fittings, pvc fittings, brass fittings,
black iron fittings, forged steel fittings etc.

2
Benefits Of Using Copper Fittings
  • There are several benefits of using copper
    fittings. Some of them includes
  • Reliability The reliability of copper makes it
more preferable than other materials. The high
quality of copper fittings enhances the
    performance of any plumbing system.
  • Affordability Copper is one of the most
affordable materials used in plumbing fittings.
Therefore, copper fit are widely used in plumbing.

3
Durability Copper is one of the most durable
material used for plumbing. It is resistant to UV
rays and also resists corrosion.

Versatility Copper is much softer than other
metals, and is easy to work with. This makes it
ideal for use in plumbing works.

Safety Copper fittings are lead free. With
copper plumbing fittings you are assured of clean
and hygienic water supply.

Types Of Copper Fittings
  • Elbows An elbow is installed between two pipes
in order to change the direction of flow. They
are usually available in 45 and 90 degree angles.
  • Caps Caps cover the open end of a pipe. It is
attached to the exterior of a pipe, and may have
a socket-weld socket end or a female threaded
    interior.
  • Couplings A coupling connects two pipes.
Couplings are of two types regular and slip. A
regular coupling has a small ridge, to prevent
over insertion of a pipe. A slip coupling is
deliberately made without this internal stop, to
allow it to be slipped into place in tight
    locations.

5
Reducers A reducer is used for change in pipe
size to meet hydraulic requirements of the
system. Reducers are usually concentric and
eccentric.

Adapters Adapters combine copper piping to
threaded pipes and fittings. Copper x Male
adapters connect copper pipes to threaded
fittings and Copper x Female adapters join copper
piping to threaded pipes.

Bushings Bushings are used in joining the pipes
of different sizes. These fittings are usually
threaded both inside and out, and take very
little space as compared to a coupling or union.

Tees Tee is the most common pipe fitting used to
combine or divide fluid flow. It is available
with female thread sockets, solvent-weld sockets
or opposed solvent-weld sockets.

Unions Unions are said to be an alternative to
couplings. Unions rely upon their own nut to
create a seal between pipe ends. This makes them
the perfect choice for connecting two fixed
pipes.

Flanges Flange fittings are used extensively in
industrial applications for handling high
pressures. Flanges are used to connect pipes.
