Race Categories
  • The Census 2000 data on race were taken from
answers to the question on race that was asked of
all people. The race data yield seven basic
    categories
  • White alone
  • Black or African American alone
  • American Indian and Alaska Native alone
  • Asian alone
  • Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander alone
  • Some Other Race alone
  • Two or more races
  • The two or more races category includes all
respondents who reported two or more races, such
as "White and Asian" and "White and Asian and
    Black or African American".

18
Ethnic Groups
  • For Census 2000 there are two minimum categories
for ethnicity Hispanic or Latino and Not
    Hispanic or Latino.
  • The federal government considers race and
Hispanic origin to be two separate and distinct
concepts. Hispanics and Latinos may be of any
    race.

19
Homeless
20
General Characteristics Non-Institutionalized
Population
  • Under the show more display, numbers are
    reported for non-institutionalized population in
    group quarters.
  • This would include homeless shelters and may
provide some measure of the number of homeless in
    an area.
