Nursing Accreditation
  • CSUCI nursing program was approved by the
    California Board of Registered Nursing 4/13/07.
  • The program will apply for CCNE accreditation
    after the graduation of its first class in 2010.

Why a BSN?
  • Broad base of education in liberal arts and
    sciences
  • Curriculum based on conceptual framework of
    health-illness with research based interventions
  • Expands career options and is often required for
    entry into MSN or Doctoral Programs
  • Meets eligibility for the California Public
    Health Nurse Certificate

2 STEP ADMISSION PROCESSOne time admission per

  • Proof of current California RN license
  • Admission to the University October 1-Nov.30

  • Declare major as RN BSN nursing
  • Application to the RN to BSN Nursing Program
    online at Extended
  • Education website

  • Declare major as RN-BSN nursing
  • Admission as a CSU student does not guarantee
    admission to the nursing program
  • Second Step
  • Application to the Nursing Program
  • In anticipation of completing all prerequisite
    courses by Spring/Summer
  • Application (RN to BSN) available on ext/ed
    website in December
  • Application period January 6-June 1

Prerequisite Courses(must be completed at end of
Spring/Semester) Any course in progress will be
calculated as a B and admissions will be
dependent upon successful completion of the
course at this grade level or above

Cohort Model
  • The students in the program will use the cohort
    model of class enrollment and this will require
    enrollment of 6-9 units. You and your classmates
    move from one level of classes to another in a
    sequential manner from 300 to 400. Enrollment in
    the nursing program involves year round
    commitment for 22 months with 3 breaks and
    including one summer session in the first year.
    While classes are generally scheduled Fridays or
    Monday, community agencies may require two days
    to fulfill clinical commitments.

Program Requirements
  • Physical Exam
  • Proof of Immunity to Rubella, Mumps, Rubeola,
    Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Current CPR - C certification CPR for Health
    Care Provider or CPR for the professional
    /rescuer
  • Drug screen
  • Criminal background check paid for by the student
    and through an agency approved by the nursing
    department.
  • Evidence of physical and emotional health
    throughout the program
  • All program requirements must be completed prior
    to first clinical - instructions will be sent in
    the admissions to the program letter
