Region

• They live all around the Great Lakes.
• The climate is 11 degrees F (12 C). Theres a
  river called Red River Valley.

Animals

• These are some of the animals in the Eastern
  Woodland.
• Some of the big animals are moose, elk, coyotes,
  wolves, and bears.
• The smaller animals are muskrat, bobcats, lynx,
  porcupines, and raccoons.
• The water animals are beaver, fish, and otters.

Food

• The Ojibwe eat woodland animals like deer, elk,
  bear, beaver, and buffalo.
• They gather berries, wild rice, fruit, and nuts.
• They plant corn, beans, squash, and pumpkins.

Shelter

• Wigwams have tied woven mats.
• Inside their frame is covered in bark.
• They roll the bark to a new camp.

Eastern Woodland Plants

• The trees are pine, oak, maple, basswood, ash,
  elm, and cottonwood.
• Thats all the plants.

Today

• There are 190,000 Ojibwes.
• They got money to buy their land back.
• Today they still have their traditions to
  celebrate.

Clothing

• For clothing, women wore dresses, moccasins,
  headdresses, cloth blouses, jackets, face paint,
  and coin necklaces.
• The men wore breech cloths and leggings.
• The boys wore war paint too.

Family Life

• Children had less time to play because they did
  chores.
• Elders told stories.
• Women were farmers.

European Influence

• Europeans brought diseases to the animals, and
  the animals carried diseases to the Ojibwe.
• Europeans caused wars. They pushed tribes into
  each others land.
• They traded beaver fur.
• The Ojibwe were forced to move.

Other

• They made wampum belts that told stories about
  families.
• They also made birch bark boxes.
• Boys played lacrosse.
