  • When shaking starts.

  • Move away from windows.

If in a car or bus, stop or pull over and stay
inside the vehicle until all shaking stops.
If outside stay in the open away from buildings,
trees and power lines.

  • If inside move away from windows towards an
    inside wall.
  • Drop and cover under a desk or table.
  • Grab desk or table legs.

  • Cover face and eyes hold position.
  • When the shaking stops, count to 60 all together
    using the One- one Thousand Method.
  • Stay in Position.

  • If shaking starts again within 60 seconds wait
    for shaking to stop and restart your 60 second
    count.
  • Repeat until all shaking stops.

  • NO OPEN FLAMES
  • If the lights go out use flashlight in your
    emergency backpack.

Check for injured students. Decide if injured can
be moved or not. Be prepared to give location of
injured.

  • Some injuries should not be moved
  • Neck and spine injuries where the person cannot
    move appendages.
  • An unconscious person who may have injured the
    neck or spine.
  • Search and Rescue will remove these type of
    injuries from the building or stabilize their
    situation until rescue workers arrive.

  • Check the safety of your exit route.
  • If safe line up students.

  • If exit is blocked find an alternative exit.
  • Line up students.

  • Walk quickly and quietly to designated area.

    to line up with their classes.

  • Classroom teachers take attendance using class
    list and issue ID badges to students.

  • If all students are accounted for hold up green
    sign.

    yellow sign. Somebody will come and get the
    name(s) of missing students.

    injured who could not be moved.

  • Situation Conscious, Trapped, Location of
    injury etc.

  • Stand quietly with class until given further
    instructions from Incident Command.

  • No student or staff is to be released until
    given directions by district authority.
  • In the event of dismissal from an evacuated
    building checkout stations will be established
    for students alphabetically.
  • Staff will be released as deemed appropriate by
    the Principal.

  • After a Fire Drill, all classes should
    immediately practice earthquake procedures in
    their classroom.
