To begin with, we need to find out what kind of
Hard Drive(s) is/are installed in our computer

Heres how we get this information
Click Start, Control Panel
Click Printers Other Hardware
In the See Also Box, click System.
Under the Hardware tab, click Device Manager
then Disk Drives
Lets check for Western Digital Drives
4
In your browser, type www.wdc.com
Click on Support
Click on Documents Library
Under Quick Links click on Diagnostic
Utilities
Under Data Lifeguard Diagnostics, click on Win
DLG
Find Program Files on your computer and click on
the Win Dlg file. When the file opens, click on
the Win Dlg icon. You will see a display of al
l the drives on your computer.
Hi-lite the drive you want to test and double
click the drive.
5
If the drive fails the test, you will get a box
that will let you run and extended test. This is
a longer test.
After the test is completed, click on view
results for more information.
You will see a complete summary of your test
results. It is a good idea to print this
information for future reference.
Finally, youll get a summary window with all the
info about your drive. Under warranty and
service, click on Warranty Information
Click on End User
Under Product Warranty Services, click on
Product Warranty Check.
Enter the serial number (s) you wrote down. You
can check on more than one drive at a time.
6
Youll get immediate feedback on the serial
number you entered status of your warranty and
its expiration date.
Remember, most hard drives you buy today will
only have a one year warranty. If the
manufacturer thought they would reliably last
longer, that warranty would be longer. Dont be
terrorized, just give your hard drive a check-up
every six months or so. Most important of all
BACK UP regularly!!
