of the most important bodies in Green Building.
Leadership in Energy and Environment Design, LEED
and The Energy and Research Institute,
TERI. Leadership in Energy and Environment
Design, LEED , has been developed by US green
Building Council to certify green designs in
U.S.A. The LEED Green Building Rating System
rates a building on criteria like site selection,
efficient use of water, energy optimization,
materials and resources used for construction
promoting sustainable developments. The Energy
and Research Institute, TERI, was formally
established in 1974 with the objective of
creating a sustainable development practices. It
carries out research activities in the field of
energy and environment and also actively
encourages industries and business houses to
spread the use of eco friendly technologies.
TERI has a presence not only in different
corners of India but also in North America,
Europe and in the Asian countries of Japan,
Malaysia and the Gulf. It has established the
World Sustainable Development Forum (WSDF) to
minotor worldwide progress inmeeting the
Millennium Developments Goals.

• Karan Grover - Architect, heritage
  conservationist, nature worshipper, futurist. He

• Harsh Sanon and his team at Sanon Sen
  Associates have over 4 decades of experience in
  large number of acclaimed projects. Residential
  projects like Golf Towers, Ideal Towers, Sun City
  and Merlin Manor are some of their landmark
  designs in Kolkata.
• Commercial and mixed use designs like The
  Legacy, ITC Centre, Time House, Merlin Links,
  Century Tower and RDB Chambers have also come up
  from the SS drawing boards. Currently they are
  the architects for an international hotel in the
  Fiji Islands at Nadi, called the Fiji Grand
  Resort.

• It is a complex of two tower blocks. The circular
  tower block to the north forms the HIDCO Tower.
  The two connected linear blocks in the south form
  the corporate towers for IT and major corporates.
• It is built on the East West axis to effectively
  counter the hot humid conditions prevalent most
  of the year.
• A central open space forms a green oasis, with
  plants that grow easily in the local climate.
• A curved open space to the north, driveways,
  pathways and promenades double as shady green
  cover, vastly lowering electricity needs to
  maintain ambient temperature, compared to
  conventional offices.

• Stepped terrace gardens on earth berms covering
  the parking space reduce heat and glare from
  paved areas, keeping the main building cool.
• A central waterbody spanned by a bridge and
  sculptural columns also plays an important
  environmental role of collecting rain water
  run-off and returning it to earth.
• The pathway also functions as a rainwater
  collection area whereby rainwater is channelized
  into recharging the underground water table.
• The most prominent feature of the building is
  that almost most of the interiors are day lit.
  This is achieved by taking a lot of north light
  and by restricting the building depth.
