Definition of Sports Communication

• Exploring the context of the World of Sports
  such as issues, themes, vocabulary, text types
  etc. related to sports to stimulate English
  language development. Or simply, using sports
  related English medium resources to encourage
  learning of the English language.

Reasons why sports communication is a good way to
develop students English

• Many students are interested in sports more than
  they might be interested in debates, poetry or
  social issues.
  
• Students come into contact with sports in their
  daily life on TV, in the newspaper,
  advertisements of sports products etc.
  
• All students have played sports (PE lessons) even
  if they are not good at it.
  
• Sports is getting more popular in HK - the
  Beijing Olympics, the equestrian events in HK,
  the Standard Chartered Marathon, the SE Asian
  Games in Nov 2009.
• Learning English through sports is new to the
  students - more interested.
  
• Materials are readily available.
• Materials can be adapted for every level of
  students
  
• The activities can cover all the 4 skills.
• Generally more fun and enjoyable than talking
  about serious issues like social problems.
