73
What is State Analysis?
  • Through the State Analysis module, Edusoft users
can generate reports which disaggregate State
Test data in a variety of ways (ethnicity, ed
    program, gender, etc)
  • Users can create Intervention Groups to track a
specific group of students over time
  • Users can also use the Comparison Tool and the
Logitudinal Tool to compare groups in the same
    year, or over time

74
How does it work?
  • Roster information is supplied to Edusoft from
    the district SIS
  • State assessment data is taken from state CDs
that the district supplies to Edusoft
  • All users types have access to the State Analysis
functionality, but access to data is informed by
    system permissions
  • District Administrators have access to all
    schools within the district
  • School Administrators have access to all students
    within their school
  • Teachers have access to the students on their
    roster

Understanding the CAHSEE Options
Summative combines all the scores from all the
CAHSEE administrations
The dates correspond to the administration dates
for the CAHSEE
92
How the scores display on an individual student
report
This student took the CAHSEE ELA section in March
and did not pass. The student took it again in
May and did not pass. The highest non-passing
score is included in the CAHSEE Summative

99
Select the students to include in the
intervention group. You can chose to include all
students, or you can base the group on a specific
performance criteria
This option will allow you to select students
based on a specific performance threshold
This option will allow you to select students
based on a specific increase or decrease since
taking a previous assessment
100
For this example, the option to determine
intervention based on performance from one
assessment to the next has been selected. This
screen allows you to enter specific criteria.
Using the drop down menus, select performance
criteria. For this example, lets select
students whose performance has increased at least
10.
101
This is your Intervention Group. This group
includes all students in the Class Size
Reduction Full Day Educational Program who had
at least a 10 increase in performance from one
assessment to the next.
Once the Intervention Group has been determined,
it can be further refined by selecting other
demographic options. For example, if we now
sorted by Gender, we could get a group that only
included the girls in this group.
Scores in salmon indicate performance which is
below the Performance Threshold.
The Intervention Group can be saved as a Custom
Group for use on future reporting

this years students on the same test
This view shows performance changes, grouped by
school from the 03-04 CST to the 04-05
administration of the same assessment
Use the drop down menus to drill down to more
specific information
115
This is the same grouping of students, broken
down by ethnicity
Performance of Alaskan Indian sub-population has
risen by 28.3 points
This shows us that 32 students took the 03-04
assessment, and 36 students took the 04-05
administration of the assessment. A matched
group would give us the most accurate indicator
of progress for this sub-population

  • Using the Performance Band Report and Item
Response Reports that youve generated for a
recent assessment, identify the standard that was
    most challenging for your students.
  • Which standard had the most students performing
    at the lowest performance band?
  • Following the Quick Guide Defining Intervention
Groups Based on Benchmark Exams, create an
intervention group based on student performance
on the same assessment. Create your group to
reflect the list of students that scored in the
lowest performance band for the standard listed
    in Step 1.
  • How many students scored in that band?
  • Which teacher had the most students in this
    Intervention Group?
  • Narrow down the Intervention Group to only
    include only female students.
  • How many students are now in this Intervention
    Group?
  • Which teacher had the most students in this

Ticket Registration Pros and Cons
  • Pros
  • One-time use makes tickets secure.
  • Circumvents self-registration flow which is
    harder for younger students.
  • Avoids students needing to remember user name and
    passwords.
  • Avoids possibility of students logging in and
taking test outside of class if the testing
window is open for more than 24 hours.
  • Cons
  • Requires a distribution mechanism for teachers
    getting tickets to students.
  • Disallows students from selecting a test to take
    from a list of tests.
  • Disallows students from seeing their test results
if not used in conjunction with user name and
    password.

399
Student Self RegistrationPros and Cons
  • Pros
  • Does not require a login distribution mechanism,
    since students can self-register.
  • Supports use of practice tests since students can
log in and see multiple tests assigned to them.
  • Allows students to log in and see their test
    results.
  • Cons
  • Susceptible to cheating, since students can share
    logins with others.
  • Requires initial self-registration by students.
  • Requires maintenance of user names and passwords
(e.g., student needing either an email or to
contact an admin to resent his password).

Current Roadblocks
  • Brainstorm a list of at least 5 roadblocks
preventing full utilization of Edusoft that
    currently exist in your school/district.

405
Strategies for Planning Edusoft Trainings
  • Training Suggestions
  • Dedicate one hour a week in regularly scheduled
    meetings to teacher training.
  • Use the Edusoft sample agenda for each module
found in the Implementation Support section of
the Library and break the agenda down into 1 hour
    topics.
  • Order these topics in order of importance.
  • Create a schedule for training topics for an
    entire month at a time.
  • If you only have one two hour session, chose the
one or two most important training topics from
    the sample agendas to cover.

406
Strategies for Planning Edusoft Trainings
  • Determine your desired outcome.
  • Consider these questions
  • What do you want teachers to know when they leave
    this training?
  • Is there a district mandated use for Edusoft that
they all need to be trained in?
  • Why have you scheduled this training?

407
Strategies for Planning Edusoft Trainings
  • Training suggestion
  • Think about the original reason why Edusoft was
brought into your district. Do all of your
teachers know why they have it? Do they know how
to use all the Edusoft features to reach this
    desired outcome?

408
Strategies for Planning Edusoft Trainings
  • Set Concrete Goals
  • Set goals for each of your training sessions in
order to reach your desired outcomes for the
    training.
  • What do you want to accomplish at each session?
