Type of Merchandise
  • The merchandise to be sold must be directly
    related to the retail establishment
  • Decorative items that relate to or complement the
    business allowed
  • Directly regulate what CAN be displayed
  • Flowers Plants
  • Food products
  • Handcrafted products goods
  • Artwork Pottery
  • For-rent recreational equipment such as roller
    skates, bikes and surfboards
  • Operable automobiles, trucks, motorcycles and
    boats
  • Any merchandise deemed by the Planning Director
    to be similar in character, type, or nature to
    the merchandise listed above and which will not
    cause adverse visual impacts

Size of the Display Area
  • Total maximum limit
  • 100 sq. ft., 12 sq. ft.
  • Linear distance based on frontage
  • 50, 25
  • Only one side for corner lots
  • Limit number of items by building size
  • One item for every 4 feet of floor space
  • Define the space for allowable displays
  • Immediately adjacent to the building, extending
    no more than 4ft

Height of Displays
  • Based on height of storefront
  • Total maximum limit
  • 12ft
  • Stacking limit
  • No more than two items

Limit Times of Display
  • Only during business hours
  • Seasonal displays
  • Period of display limited to 45 consecutive days
    and 90 total days during a calendar year

Public Safety Standards
  • Cannot block emergency lanes, sight distance,
    handicapped access, doorways, pedestrian walkways
    etc
  • Disallow encroachment on permitted parking areas

Other Regulations
  • Allowed on hardscape only (not in landscaped
    areas)
  • Disallow signs and lighting of outdoor displays
  • Disallow display on vacant property
  • Allow application for Alternative Outdoor
    Display
