total population but smaller outflows to partner
    countries

    high level of international connectedness
  • There is a substantial emphasis on giving
incoming students a high quality study period
that links to both the quality of the
universities and a wide range of experiences
linked to New Zealands unique cultural diversity
    and landscapes.

New Zealand and no privately funded universities.

    approaches across all activities.
  • The New Zealand Vice-Chancellors Committee has
    legislated responsibility to establish and
maintain good practices to support the
    universities
  • The uniformity of approach by New Zealand
universities has made a high level of individual
    and collective participation in international
    education relatively straightforward

8
Quality Assurance in New Zealand Universities
  • The Education Act 1989 provides for delegation to
    the New Zealand Vice-Chancellors Committee
    (NZVCC)
  • The NZVCC gives effect to the delegation and the
    overall consistency of quality assurance
    through
  • The Gazetted Criteria established through the
    agencies of Government

linked to major research collaboration including
    staff and postgraduate student exchanges
  • Credit recognition pathways and articulation
