There are many different types of masks and many
reasons why different cultures wear them. Here
are ideas to help you decide what type of mask
you would like to make

Why do you think different cultures wear masks?
  • Since ancient times masks have been worn for a
    number of reasons
  • As part of Dance Ceremonies
  • Story telling
  • Hiding the wearers identity

Masks have the ability to conceal, change, or
transform the 'person' behind the image into
something or someone else. Masks can be playful
or powerful and they are worn for many reasons
including rituals, religion, and myth.

  • Many Tribes believe that when a person wears an
    animal mask, they share some of the creatures
    power.
